Drink Pickle Brine?

I've been eating a lot of kosher dill spears recently and always thought throwing away the brine was wasteful, so I tried a small glass. Could be just me, but it was tasty and refreshing and have been drinking more and more. The seeds are a nice treat.

It's usually just vinegar, isn't it?

TheMentat 09-04-2009 08:16 AM

I had an ex-girlfriend that used to do that. I wouldn't want to be lumped in the same group as that retard if I was you! ;)

Another good use is pickling hard boiled eggs!

I have some brine for ya...

Vinegar, honey, peppercorns, garlic, Thai chilies

I mixed this up yesterday, should be ready to go in about a week... and gets better with age...http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252081740.jpg

Love it. I'll drink it any chance I get.

In the concession stand we used to freeze pickle juice and sell it. 25cents for one of those little plastic condiment cups.

Tim, that looks outstanding! add a touch to a bloody mary? But I see that and immediately think to mix a little with some mayo as a dipping sauce for honey-ginger candied shrimp.

how about sauerkraut juice? packs a pretty good wallop.

Love pickle juice. Right now I am trying something new which is popular in the South--Kool Aid Pickles.

empty pickles/brine, fill jar 1/2 with water, add kool aid and sugar, mix, put pickles and brine back in jar--let sit for 2 weeks

can't wait

Try mixing some of that juice into potato salad ;) If you're drinking the stuff be aware of the sodium content?

Danimal16 09-04-2009 10:10 AM

Also, put boiled eggs in it. Good stuff.

Pickle juice no, sauerkraut sauce yes. I cut up keilbasa in a pot with sauerkraut, get everything thoroughly warm. When I'm done eating the solids, I drink the juice. So yummy. It does however have a side effect. Within 30 minutes, sometimes half of that, I'm clean as a whistle inside. It's really pretty amazing.

That sounds really disgusting.

A long ago girlfriend once told me pickle brine was good for easing menstrual cramps. Keep it up Shaun, you'll feel better in no time! :D

I used to help my friend in his snowball stand long ago. we give away free snowballs to anyone if they didn't ask what flavor and tasted it at the window so we could watch. surprisingly... not too many kids finished their dill pickle juice snowballs

Down in the south on the football field it is very common to see a big jar of pickles by the trainers. Somehow, the salty brine eases the cramps of the runners. Don't ask me how though.

You're almost there, my friend.

Take yourself a whole Habanero pepper and cut her up in the kraut and 'basa. Cook until done. Let it sit for about 4-hours for all that capsium (sp?) to leech out of the pepper.

Warm it back up.

Then, eat as much as you like. :o

Oh, your iinsides will be cleaner than any whistle you ever saw! :D

A big ol' jar of French's Mustard will also do the trick!

Its great for endurance athletes, I drink it when Im out on the 8 and 24 endurance bike races I do throughout the year.
