Marmite is the best on toast with lots of butter yummyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Now of course you have to be a Brit to enjoy, cause I've yet to find one American to like it!!

Quickest way to make my wife leave the room is to open some Marmite :D

Similar but Marmite is a lot stronger.

Both are an acquired taste. ;)

What's it made of... and vegemite, what's that made of as well. Don't see much of it where I shop! :(

Tobra 09-07-2009 12:02 AM

didnt know Brits liked it too, i thought it was a Kiwi/Aussie thing. I have marmite on toast most mornings.

It's a yeast spread. its like having guinness on toast. its very healthy and natural and you do acquire a taste/craving for it. high in vitamin B.

i prefer marmite to vegemite.

My mum still puts that crap on toast. Everytime she moves, she has to find a new source. Oh, and let us not forget "Bovril".

MattKellett 09-07-2009 07:10 AM

Here's all you ever wanted to know about the wonderful spread we were weaned on when kids back in the motherland lol

And for some Marmite fun, why not go here?

From the description of that schit (wikipedia) I'll bet it 'came up' :D

Love it!

I've tried Bovril too but Marmite is stronger amd definitely has the edge. I had some on my toast for breakfast this morning actually.

Now, my wife can't stand it. For an additional data point, she's American and I'm English.

Interesting side note. I've heard that eating Marmite discourages mosquito bites. Certainly I don't get bitten when I've eaten Marmite before working in the yard. Noramlly I'd get bitten withing 20 seconds of stepping outside.

I like Marmite, fairly easily found here in Seattle; QFC sells it.
Several other online stores sell it. Yes, on toast, it rules!!!!

MFAFF 09-07-2009 09:54 AM

And this beats them all...

Fantastic stuff...

It was a Brit thing first I would surmise. You guys get a lot of tastes from the home island.

It's a very salty yeast extract, so I'm not sure that it is that healthy. Plenty of other options for Vit B complex. For salt lovers, it is heaven. I used to eat that stuff off a knife - no need for toast. Bovril I remember as mostly a drink (beef based).

Am munching on Twiglets right now and they are partially made out of Marmite. You either like or hate the taste... and I love it.

syncroid 09-07-2009 12:22 PM

I've never even heard of any of these.
