I know what my solution is for zombies. I'll simply take refuge with Rick Lee, sniper, or any number of heavily-armed PPOTers. I think Jeff H is closest to me.

All are welcome here, just bring food and water with you.

If we supply food and water, do you supply the beer and ammo?

Do you have a branch residence in So. Cal by any chance?

Bring food or women. By that point, it will be a barter economy.

My brother lives about 5 miles away. He has over 70,000rds of various popular ammo calibers in his house.

And about 50 guns.

I'm sure he'd be happy to take in any and all volunteers as long as they bring in their food. I'll be one of them. ;)

Sorry, no So. Cal locations, but Nostatic, Leland, Hugh and many others would probably welcome their own militiamen if the SHTF. ;)

Is that "food for women" or "food or women"? Makes a big difference in the quantity of food offered.

RWebb 09-08-2009 05:35 PM

many dinos were armor plated -- a wimpy .50 might not be enuff before you are over run

also, these things are not stupid and will attack from an advantageous position

no one has mentioned flame throwers yet, BTW

jyl 09-08-2009 05:45 PM

I'm thinking you can't move fast while lugging a 50 cal, nor fire rapidly at the pack of velociraptors swarming you, and all the penetration in the world won't help if you don't know where the thing's vitals are - anyone know where the heart is on a T Rex? A triceratops? A spinosaurus?

I like sniper's idea of an underbarrel grenade launcher. Maybe you could get one on something more Dino-worthy than an M16? Do they make launchers for an M14?

onewhippedpuppy 09-08-2009 06:07 PM

You are so screwed....

Tobra 09-08-2009 06:31 PM

Dude, I totally forgot about the T-rex F-14's

Seems to me the M14 had like a grenade launching ability, but it was more of a stick it on the end of the barrel affair

your best option is probably a cobra gunship.

For man portable, gotta go with the Barrett .50, semi auto seems pretty important, though I like the bolt action 20 mm

Maybe that gattling gun off your Cobra, but who is toting the ammo

The chances of Sniper living in Cali are slightly less than the chances that a pack of those monkeys from The Wizard of Oz are fixin' to fly out of my ass.

vash 09-08-2009 09:05 PM

i had the pleasure of shooting a military .50 cal sniper rifle. they made we put on a flack jacket. awesome power. not something you could hump through any prehistoric jungle. heavy. one misstep into a tar pit, and you will be dragged to the bottom.

i think avoiding the t-rex would be key. 12 gauge for the raptors, but they hunt in packs...i have seen the documentary, with jeff goldblum in it.

personally i think you should avoid spicy food before bedtime. haha.

Has no one here read "A Sound of Thunder"? You can't step off the path!!!

Arizona_928 09-08-2009 09:16 PM

I would say a 88. KFB

Yes: http://www.lasalle.edu/~didio/courses/hon462/hon462_assets/sound_of_thunder.htm

Actually I liked Deathbeast by David Gerrold a bit better.

aigel 09-08-2009 09:49 PM

How about some old world Africa guns? .700 nitro express (1000 grains).

slodave 09-08-2009 10:02 PM

^^ that thing is huge! Knocked his hearing protection off :D. Also looks like he needs a HANS device for the whiplash.

911pcars 09-09-2009 12:48 AM

Hambrusch looks weak, not because of the caliber, but because of the rate of fire. One miss at the kill and even a little carnivore would be all over the guy, with or without ear muffs. OTOH, the double-barrel version allows you get two shots off (maybe) just before the dinosaur and his pals make a wish with your extremities - the rifle making a good toothpick after their meal.

Rapid fire is what's needed, and a helicopter is most handy for mobility and to reload without stress (bad for the heart). Dinosaurs realize the lock and load time is of utmost importance to gain the upper hand.

What about incendiary and/or explosive .50 BMG rounds? Sure better than carrying a 20mm.

BlueSkyJaunte 09-09-2009 07:08 AM

This stuff will make you a god damned sexual Tyrannosaurus, just like me.

t951 09-09-2009 09:06 AM

What was the rifle that Bruce Willis used in the movie the Jackal? I think it was a fake one.

But that, with auto targeting setup in Alien would work. Great for raptors, and the firepower to knock down a trex..... I would be in my hide just waiting for it to be over...

Risky. That gun looks the same as the one used in the documentry film Jurrasic Park 3. Look what happened to Cooper when he tried to take out ONE of the more nasty dinos...

A phased-pulse plasma rifle in the 40 watt range.

Not quite portable, yes? And who protects the fuse box?

And did you ever think what happens when the trigger finger becomes fatigued? There's an alternate plan to hunting. Besides, decaying dinosaur carcasses in the neighborhood isn't good for property values.

I vote for a fully fortified, self-contained concrete bunker, of the type shown here. Floor shows, full amenities and staff included.

John, it isn't just you that can dream of a world with dinosaurs.

why not just take it off planet - then follow those who posted re an orbital bombardment system - hook your rocket motors to some meteors and let 'er rip

ooops! somebody already DID that to the dinos....

Hence my suggestion to use a PTRS-41.

The 14.5mm commie round has more than double the muzzle energy of a .50BMG round.

LOL....

Ok, since we're talking dreams here.....

For large (like 7 ton) game: THE COBRA ASSAULT CANNON (from Robocop)

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1252543534.jpg

As for the smart, pack-hunting 'raptors, that a tough one. I agree that it must be something with a very large magazine, very high rate of fire, and very light (pivoting a lot to cover one's "six").

Oh, what the heck.... we're talking dreams here....and man-portable be damned.

That must be Skynet Model B1, the portable version. Model A1 was a plug-in hybrid.

These will work. If the .50 doesn't cut it she goes into btch mode.
