any tv repairmen in the house?

i just scored a free mitsubishi vs50va2 (rear projector) for free but needs repaired.......
the sound board powers up and you hear sound, but the 3 light guns are not turning on.
after doing some research it looks like it may be the power supply to the guns, or some things on one of the boards came de-soldered after time (that's the most common fix i've been able to find so far) but before i start tearing things apart i wanted to see if there are any professionals here......
my biggest problem is i can't find a service manual for it.......
i know there is mega voltage in there and what not to touch etc.....LOL
thanks all

I'm no expert for sure, but I've seen (and fixed) power supplies before that have had capacitors fail and I understand this is fairly common with cheap, usually Chinese, capacitors. They are generally fairly easy to spot as the capacitor case becomes bulged on the end - I'm talking about the cylindrical electrolytic capacitors here.

Of course this may well have nothing at all to do with your problem but it is easy enough to look for as a first quick check. Easy to fix too.

I worked at a TV repair shop from 99-2001 in Huntsville, AL while stationed at Redstone Arsenal. The guns are powered by a "Flyback Transformer" (this thing can produce up to 25k volts) which is responsible for power to the guns. So you must first determine why you have no high voltage. There is a transistor which furnishes the pulse which powers the flyback. There could be several things within that circuit which is causing your problem. This btw is no where near the power supply. Although it can be fixed, it would be best to take it into a shop.

There is a series of Mitsu TV's that have a DM board failure issue. They have 4 caps that overheat and cause it to fail.

Took a friends TV apart and replaced the caps and it came right back up and has been working for 2 years now. Was not that difficult with the right tools and saved her $900 bucks on a $25 repair.

Might look here for info: http://www.techlore.com/forum/thread/18990/Mitsubishi-WS65513-Blinking-Green-Light/?page=1
