My lady threw me to the dogs tonight.

We are both pretty busy people, she went back to school, this is her last semester. She puts up with me working on the rental houses on the weekends, so I take care of our son, and her dad nights while she is at school/studying.
Tonight is open house for my sons first year of day school. He is 3.5. This is at the local church. My lady has a group meeting for her class, and she cant miss it, so I get volunteered to take him. I told her I was a little nervous about it, but I would do it.
I get there, and I guess my kid is nervous/ anxious, as any kid would be, but he was a complete terror. He was taking toys from other kids, and threw a leg kicking /scraming tantrum while I was trying to give the toys back. It was a complete nightmare. I have never seen my child behave like this.
I think it was a fairly tight bunch, they probably all know each other from church, and I could feel some of the mothers stares searing my flesh. I was about as embarassed as I have ever been, and I was completely out of my element. I am thinking that maybe that is something both parents should attend together. There were a couple of other kids that were a little unruly, but both parents were there to help diffuse the situation. I was trying to talk to the teach, and control my kid at the same time. Was a total disaster.
I sort of had all of those uncomfortable first day of school feelings suddenly rushing back in again.
Well, I guess what doesn't kill you will make you stronger.

Hang in there, the uncomfortable feelings are probably there for your son as well.

I am in a similar situation but flipped around. I am the one in school. It sucks because I am competing for grades against kids who have no other obligations than to study. It pains me when I have to miss family obligations due to school commitments. Surely you wife feels bad as well. It is not all peaches and cake. Hang in there.

Dude, that is totally normal for a child. I would bet your wife will share a story about a time he did this with her.

I cringe when taking our kids to the store. Not that the are not able to be good, they choose NOT TO at the worst moments.

I carried my 3YO out under my arm from the grocery store a few weeks ago. She threw a fit because I didn't let her put a box of pudding on the "u-scan it" thingy.

I could feel everyone staring as I walked out of the store with her wailing away. I did get a few knowing nods from Moms I locked eyes with, though. They know what it's like.
My son calmy walke beside us the entire time without saying a word.
Tonight we went to the same store and they were both perfect angels. Unbelievable.

Hang on for the ride, buddy.

They certainly do have impeccable timing, don't they? Mine (5 and 2) are always angels for everyone else, but little bastards for me. Oh well, it makes life interesting. Don't worry about the church ladies, they glare at everyone.

I think your son and I would have taken a little walk around back for a little father and son bonding...

We have all been there, and there will always be moments where you are the large and in charge one.

We spent the weekend with my family, staying with my sister. The kids were really well behaved all weekend, except when they got tired, which is to be expected.

My wife ended up having to go in to work yesterday so I decided to stay with the kids instead of cutting the fun short. I've watched my kids at home plenty of times but we were at a public beach and I was a it leery about keeping track of them.

All went well, though and we had a lot of fun. My Mom turned 70 and all of the kids and grandkids were there to surprise her.

Freakin' kids!! You never know what to expect from them.

Duct tape is a wonderful restraining device and typically doesn't leave marks on the kids wrists and ankles.
