One of 46,240

To think...I got out of a rare '72S (1750 coupes made) and now drive one of 46,240 mustangs made in 2009.

A quote from the Bullitt club posting board:

"I got a call from Ford Customer Service yesterday afternoon, in response to an online inquiry I made this week about getting some stats on my car. Maybe this is old news, but the gal on the phone told me to call SVT for more info on when a SVT certificate would be available 800-367-3788.

She was able to confirm that the 2009 Production numbers show that:
46,240 Mustangs were built.
13,359 of them were GT Premium Coupes, and 810 of those were Bullitts.

Like the Bullitts but overall the Mustangs are getting like Honda Civics - they're so common they don't even get my attention anymore - not even the cool ones. Maybe that's a good thing (from a potential speeding ticket standpoint...)

When the new mustangs came out (not the 20010, the previous few years), they looked great. I guess they still look great, but who can tell because they're everywhere. The new version has the humped rear fenders, but I don't like what they did to the front and rear ends.

I just don't see myself in one.

As long as you're happy....

Some guy parks a Bullet Mustang (lic plate Bullt) in the commuter train lot. I follow him in and like the taillights. Isn't the Bullet Mustang just an appearance package/sale gimmick?

You really are in pity mode for selling that 911.

Get another one before your sulking kills you.

Actually, now I'm thinking of selling the Mustang...thinking I might be happier replacing the old Dodge with a modern 4X4 full sized pickup, and spend more time around a pool table than messing with cars.

No more P-cars...I've been there, done that, have a closet full of T shirts.

(edit) The thing is...Cindy loves the Mustang...guess I need to keep it. My main complaint about it is the same complaint I'd have about any new car. Too much stuff that comes standard that I don't like or need...
power windows, power driver seat, power mirrors...all the weight adding stuff today's car buyers expect. Other than that, it's a very nice driver.

Steve, the Bullitt is more than an appearance thing...more aggressive suspension, engine has more power, bigger wheels, lower 3.73 rear end with limited slip, etc. As compared to the 2009 GT models. But yeah, appearance is what attracted me to that model...it's lack of external gee-gaws like stripes, spoiler, fog lights...

It's about 95% appearance package. I think it comes with a high flow air cleaner that adds 10hp or something like that.

Here's a description from 2001 when it first came out.

Quote:
To call Bullitt an appearance package is both unfair and incorrect. Under the hood, the 4.6L, two-valve Ford has been treated to a new upper intake manifold and underdrive pulleys, as well as dual 57mm throttle bodies (replacing the stock GT’s single 65mm unit and cribbed from the Lightning) for better low-end response. The exhaust has been tuned to give 20 percent better flow, as well to sound more like McQueen’s movie ride (though the original source for the sound remains apocryphal).

The results on paper are a little disappointing: It seems like a lot of work for an extra 5 hp and 3 lb-ft of torque over stock. The pulleys alone should have been able to fetch numbers like that. Still, Bullitt’s torque is far broader than previous GTs; the torque peaks 600 rpm earlier at 4,000, and low-end response has improved dramatically. We’ll have to run one on a dyno to be sure, but we suspect that Ford may be downplaying the power gain, probably to keep the insurance industry at bay… or maybe to keep hypersensitive 320hp Cobra owners from getting in a snit?

A Tremec 3650 five-speed replaces the T45 and offers a 3.37 First gear as well as a more direct-feeling shifter; it single-handedly makes Bullitt a package that means business. The shift action on the T5s and T45s have always felt sloppy to our hands, and the Tremec is a delight: direct, positive, and not nearly so awkward to push around. An 11-inch clutch and flywheel are part of the package, too.

The chassis has come in for a tweak as well. Six-hundred-pound springs replace the pillowy 450-pounders on standard GTs, and lower the car ¾-inch; 250-pounders replace the GT’s 210s in back. The sway bars are now tubular instead of solid, and are up to 28mm in front (up from 26.5) and down to 21mm in back (23mm on the GT) for more neutral cornering; Tokico shocks and struts with custom valving are also part of the program. Wheels and tires remain stock GT fare, though the Superior wheels have gray centers like McQueen’s Americans; Mustang Chief Engineer Art Hyde claims that the inspiration for the Bullitt Mustang, beyond the movie, came from those wheels. Thirteen-inch Brembo rotors replace the stock 12-inchers, and PBR calipers have been painted red with a galloping steed laser-etched in for effect.

Here's a 2008 description
Quote:
The Bullitt Package
In addition to the green paint and lack of badges, the 2008 Bullitt Mustang adds Ford Racing’s exhaust and cold-air intake to the Bullitt Mustang’s 4.6-liter V-8. The resulting 315 horsepower and 325 lb.-ft of torque is 15 hp and 5 lb.-ft. more than the GT. The Bullitt also gets a recalibrated throttle for crisper response; retuned cams for better high-end power, higher redline and a meatier torque curve; a shorter final-drive ratio for quicker launches; and a solid-shifting five-speed manual transmission. Shocks and struts are unique to the Bullitt, as are the rear springs, which lower the car an almost imperceptible 6 mm

Ughhh.... with all this mustang talk, there's a "Mustang Drift: Japan" banner ad at the bottom of the screen.

I've been thinking about an '08 or '09 Mustang. I could use a bigger back seat, but still want a rear-wheel-drive coupe. I like that a Mustang blends in traffic better than the Porsche.

The 911 will stay, and continue to come out on autocross day. I've been using the 3/4 ton 4x4 as the daily driver lately. A Mustang is quite the economy car compared to the 5000 pound truck with the 4:10 axles.

True that...I've been averaging 18 on premium. 3:73 limited slip rear end, 5 speed.. 80 on the freeway is barely above 2,000..redline is 6,500. That's on 10% gasohol premium...all you can buy in Oregon. (edit) GT models have taller gears than a Bullitt, 3:50, IIRC...may get slightly better hwy mileage. That's with the 3 valve overhead cam 4.6 V8.

Back seat is usable...as long as the front passenger is willing to scoot forward. With both seats all the way back, only double amputees need apply.
