Gibraltar International Airport
For some strange reason, this makes perfect sense to me. They probably don't have a whole lot of room in their crowded little corner of the world, so why not?

When I went to Gib, they were allowing foot traffic across. That's the connection between "the Rock" and the mainland.
Gibraltar is a really amazing place.

Spent a week there once too, back in my Yacht Captain days. Amazing place. Entire side of a mountain was cemented over, and equipped with drains into a cistern. Is where all their water comes from. The Spanish refuse to give them any. In the days I was there, there was very little free flow across the border. Everything came by boat or plane.
And yes, what they say about the Monkeys is true. |

There used to be a street crossing at KSMO for airplanes, but no longer - they've converted all the old hangars on the other side of the street to other uses and the airfield perimeter is secure like any other airport now. It was cool though.

Barbary Apes
![]() Yes, most of their water comes from either fog/rain (the collection area is on the Mediterranean side) or desalinated water.

The water catchment on the eastern side was for a long tie the prime water source... the Spanish are now a little friendlier...
We had a great tour of the tunnels and bunkers in the rock when we were there...ohhh lets say a few decades ago...but the run to the top of the rock was nasty.. racing the real 'rock apes'... RAF Regiment guys. It was fun to see the effect on the locals when a RN flotilla arrived (I recall HMS Brazen and a couple of others...) and the bars certainly changed!.

I didn't like those Apes - one jumped into the car and took my lens cap. They were very bold!

The story going around when I was there was that the Spanish 'imported' the apes from Africa, known for their agressiveness and biting to harass the Brits that had recently retaliated for some percieved transgression. This was in the late 70's.
