KT

i would NEVER have a conversation in a room with a female employee and a closed. EVER.

trust your instincts they are usually 90% correct. if you get a bad vibe from this women then go with it.

If the situation is as you've posted.... then don't let your career get ruined by some tweeker looking for a quicky lawsuit.

She has already "filed" aginst you.
First strike.
It is sigifigant.

m21sniper 09-10-2009 02:59 PM

I would hit "Record" every time this broad was within earshot of you, just in case.

And no fking way in hell i'd have that meeting without HR or your boss present. Even with a recorder.

yeah, i know. totally annoying.

nynor 09-10-2009 03:23 PM

you guys are even more paranoid than i am. this has given me pause. i'll be VERY careful.

m21sniper 09-10-2009 03:28 PM

Dude....there are a few true stories i could tell you that would make you understand where i'm coming from with my admitted paranoia.

Let's just say that women who file restraining orders need NO EVIDENCE WHATSOEVER to back their claims, your word vs hers, and you WILL lose.

that means...

1) you lose your job
2) you look like scum in the eyes of your colleagues
3) you have to turn your guns over to the local gestapo

Trust me, don't make the same mistakes that MILLIONS of men before you have.

Send me a PM if you want to hear my real life horror stories.

MBAtarga 09-10-2009 03:29 PM

Your link for the recording is specific to phone conversations from what I can tell. Does the same law apply for in-person recordings?

i think its going to be OK, i just don't particularly like or trust this woman. she is a bit of a drama magnet.

This screams pending disaster even more than "Hold my beer and watch this"!

This is one of the reasons you have HR. Use them.

a little back-story:

we have this newish female employee. i knew something was up because she has been very curt and short with me for about two weeks. being an easy going guy, i just let it go, after trying to talk to her a bit. then my boss calls me from work and tells me that she told him that she is 'scared' of me! WTF!? i asked him if she had anything more specific than that, which he denied. i told him that until she talks to me about it, her actions are weak and she doesn't have a leg to stand on. he agreed and decided to set up a one on one meeting with us. just her and i.

the problem is that i get a weird vibe from this woman. i think she is trouble, in some way, and i don't trust her at all.

i am thinking that maybe we should have this discussion with the boss present.

any ideas?

hmmm. your boss tells you to talk with her one on one just when he's leaving... Sounds like you are being set-up. He's boinking her and she'll get a promotion when you get fired.

just kidding.

have the talk, but in case you and your boss have misread this whole thing, have a box of condoms in plain sight, maybe a wink midway through would do it. Always be prepared for the best.

Everyone else has good ideas too so you should be well-prepared.

Shaun may have been kidding -- maybe not -- but this does not sound so far out of the realm of possibility to me. Stranger things have happened.
Be careful!

m21sniper 09-10-2009 03:56 PM

Well if that happens he'll have one hell of a steaming hot audio recording of it, won't he? :D

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!!!!

Do not record anything. Have the meeting behind closed doors WITH HR!!!!

If something comes of the one on one and you recorded it without permission you COULD be in more trouble than it's worth.

Seriously, don't do it.
