unattractive slant nose kit.

stomachmonkey 09-16-2009 06:57 PM

Those look like 911 bumpers.

varmint 09-16-2009 06:58 PM

you're sure it's not a fiero?

porsche4life 09-16-2009 07:00 PM

I may have to go look at it. Its got a 914 interior. dude wants 2500. I'm broke so thats a no go. Not that I'd want the basterd anyways.

Racerbvd 09-16-2009 07:07 PM

That is a Chalon 930S kit pn the 914.

porsche4life 09-16-2009 07:20 PM

Whats it worth Its a 74

stomachmonkey 09-16-2009 07:28 PM

The stripes and or the the camera angle make the car look bent.

porsche4life 09-16-2009 07:31 PM

Thinking I may go take some better pictures tomorrow and see how it runs/what his bottom dollar is. May be ugly but it would still be a good autocrosser.

slant nose kit, and 911 bumpers.... It looks like it has been sitting in that grass for a bit of time, I would be weary of rust.

porsche4life 09-16-2009 08:37 PM

I am weary of rust in any 914.

Byron is correct. It is the mitcom chalon kit installed on a 914. In the 70's Allen Mittelman found a customized 914 that was the basis of the Chalon. He brought the car to AIR in burbank to modify and productionize the parts for making a kit.

Remember that the 914 was (still is?) considered a basic box design that the Datsun Z's of the time easily eclipsed in terms of style. So a fair amount of 914 owners wanted something more contemporary

The "original" Chalon is still in silver, black and striped splendor in Alan's care

Are those stripes or gaps in the fiberglass panels???

McLovin 09-17-2009 07:02 AM

Almost everything that was once in style or popular will become popular again, given enough time.

The Chalon kit isn't one of them.

kmhemi 09-17-2009 07:33 AM

I had a 71 with a Chalon kit. Most of the cars I have seen are bad about cracking where the fenders and quarters are glassed to the car. I like them. not eveyone does. I know when I had mine I got compliments on it everytime we drove it and people were always taking pictures of it. The only thing I hated about it was every third or 4 th person would ask me if it was a kit car. But then again I had some fool ask me if my 911 was a kit car so there ya go.
check the right side frame area where the battery tray should be or once was. They are bad about rusting there. I will try to post some pictures

kmhemi 09-17-2009 07:53 AM

This car was white when I got it. I wasnt crazy about this spoiler but I put it back on since the deck lid was drilled for it

Actually that is one of the best ones I've ever seen.

kmhemi 09-17-2009 08:52 AM

Thanks for the compliment, I did all of the work myself and kept the car as stock as I could while doing so. I will try to find another pic or two
