My Daughter's Cat "Rascal" is gone
This was the greatest cat ever, my daughter rescued Rascal when she was at college in San Francisco, he was abanded in Oakland. I was BBQing and he got out. We found out 4 days later that Rascal was killed most likely by a coyote. A neighbor a few blocks away found Rascal's collar and a trail of blood leading to his back yard, there he found lots of black fur and Rascals leg. I'm very depressed this cat was like a best friend:(http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1253998287.jpg

Condolences to your family.
Not many outdoor cats in these parts. All of my neighbors who owned a cat and let them outside are now without. Same story for small dogs. |

That is very sad. Poor Rascal.

is out there lost, stolen or ? |
Coyote hunting should be legal...(edit) Lucky for me there is sheep grazing in these parts. Coyotes don't last long.
|
Bummer, I'm sorry for your loss. I hate these threads.

They were here first. It's the hunting of wolves that has allowed the population of coyotes to explode. So- do we stop hunting wolves or kill the coyotes? |
i have an out door cat. i know when coyotes are in the neighborhood. it's the only time he ever shows me any affection.
sorry for your loss. hate to lose a pet like that. |
Awful. Sorry to hear about the loss.
|
We lost a favorite cat to either a coyote or an owl, back when we were living in the foothills north of Glendale. She disappeared and looking for her, for weeks, was bad. So knowing for sure that Rascal is dead is sort of a blessing, even though it doesn't seem like one.
Her name was Nikki (named after Nikki Lauda, this was in the 80s). Edit: my wife reminds me that we also lost Bilbo the cat to coyotes, in the same area. |

But what the heck? The Cougars were here first, right? |

On a up note, Idaho just re-opened hunting season for wolves |
Sorry to hear this.:(
Rascal looks like our 'Mr Zoey' http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1254028354.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1254028402.jpg See if you can find another 'little friend' from the shelter when you are ready. KT |
sorry to hear that, and that can be scaried. Does Cayote attack human, let say kids or babies?
|
They can, yes.
Like most animals, they're generally afraid of humans, but if one is close enough to human inhabited areas to be used to them and sees a baby or small child outside, they might very well decide to go after it. Habitat encroachment does things like that. |

shouldn't we live in areas without cayote? Or should we allow to shoot/kill them? I see cayotes at my work several times and wonder if they ever attack human. Saying such things I can see I become animal protection's enemy.
|
Sorry to hear that. Black cats are the coolest I think. We had one outdoor black cat that lived to be 18, She could get in the barn at night though.
|
Sorry to hear this. The coyotes are seem to be getting braver these days.
|
Sorry to hear about Rascal. I absolutely love animals and I almost hate to click on a thread here that brings bad news. Hopefully it went quick for him and he is in a better place.
|
Did Rascal still have his claws on all four corners? I hope so. No claws is like no guns for humans.
If they are an indoors only forever cat, then no guns/claws is understandable. But if they ever go outside, or have the ability to escape, they need their guns... otherwise they are fast oversized rabbits. Claws or no claws on Mr. R? [not getting into the whole 'it changes their personality thing'] |
Wow, that sucks :(
Condolences from me and Punch http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1254067714.jpg |
Really sorry about your loss. These are the toughest threads for me to read.
|
sad...cats dont stand a chance against a coyote. the food chain is very clear cut.
my cats want out, but we are very vigilant against the escape artist....sorry for the loss. coyote are so easy to hunt...i quit chasing them. hmmmm, maybe with a bow...naaa. |

Good man!
|
That picture is disgusting and is a display of someone's disrespect for life.
That's how I feel about it. KT |
Its a photoshop.
|
Are you sure?
I hope so. KT |
If I should squeeze a trigger on one of those Varmints, I'll do it for Rascal...
|
we lost our "grumpy old man" twister a while back he got hit by a mom talking on her cell phone speeding on our dead end road. He survived the accident but a week later we had him put down because of injuries and he just gave up. we went out when we were ready and got a new little buddy (he's a little crazy) who doesn't make up for the loss of a best friend but makes it ALOT easier.

Our cat Hobbes died about 2 weeks ago. We have now started looking at shelter cats. It helps - you won't forget Rascal but there is another cat out there who is wonderful in his/her own way.
