Tint for car lights - Night Shades

Used Night Shades on a few vehicles now and thought I would share some of the good and bad.

Easy to apply...spray on, let dry, that simple. You can remove the lense or just mask it off, however I reccomend remove the lense.

Durable...the first car I used the product on is every much as it was the day we did it.

The bad...don't try it on your headlamps! While it looks extremely cool the product is not intended for this. On tail lamps the light is allowed to shine through and brake lights remain red, turn signals remain amber. Headlamps will shine through although the projection of the beam is very reduced.

Easy to remove...just used some citrus based remover and a dish washing pad to remove the tint in less than 15 minutes.

When I first read this thread, I had two questions. What? and Why?

Now, thanks to Google, I have the answer to What?
Quote:
VHT's Nite Shades coating is a transparent black taillight lens coating for creating a custom look. When applied to taillights, fog lights, or turn indicators, VHT Nite Shades appears black--until the lights are lit. Then the natural color appears; red, in the case of taillights. It's recommended for off-road use only, as it may not be legal in some areas.
I'm still sitting where wondering Why?

ha ha yeah one of them things you either like it or hate it. Guess it comes down to some people like the look, for example the clear lense "Alteeza" (Spelling?) look horrible to me! Although something as simple as a nice red car with red brake lights looks good...so why not a black car with black brake lights. Evil!

Why on earth would you do anything to make your vehicle less visible?

Simply idiotic.

ok I am an idiot then, although I never said it made the vehicle less visible. Your right, maybe I should add some neon lights under it along with a neon license plate frame. lol

This has been debated ad nauseum on one of the motorcycle forums I visit. Every so often you get some kid on there bragging about how "b1tchin" his bike looks because he's added some blackout/tint/whatever crap to his lenses. Invariably he gets massacred because of the utter stupidity of it (anything that reduces your visibility - particularly on a motorcycle - makes the likelihood of an accident higher). And on motorcycles in particular, being "less visible" directly correlates to "greater chance of being killed". There's absolutely no difference here except that in a large pickup truck you might walk away where on a bike, you most likely won't.

Something else to consider is it may not just be yourself and your car you're putting at risk with this stuff. You might inadvertently be endangering someone else. Just something to think about. I have a bit of a problem with people putting their vanity above their own safety (stupid) or the safety of others (flat-out irresponsible). Sounds like someone needs to grow up and think about these things a bit.

There are strict standards as to how many lumens are required from both headlamps and taillights. Anything applied to the lenses (film, tint, dirt, snow, etc.) reduces that and directly increases the likelihood of a crash. So if you want to look like a stupid punk kid, go ahead. It's your car. But make sure to post pictures of the ticket when you get one or of the back end of your truck all smashed in when some doofus plows into the back of you.

I have a blackout screen on my sled but then again, I'm just a kid at heart. (but not on the light) I like to see the trees as early as possible.

Good point and yes this application can be taken too far, knowing when is the key thus my headlamps are back to clear. While I have not tested the lumens of my tail lamps I would bet the traffic ticket they pass the test.

As for motorcyle riders, yes they are hard to see and I think orange/yellow reflective vests for all should be required along with helmets, boots, and long sleeves/pants.

I love blackouts.

I've had them on several of my cars. Anyone that doesn't like that can dial 1-800-f**k-off

A lot of the Mustang guys seem to like them. I figure I can use all the night vision I can get...couldn't see dimming the HID lights.

(edit)

Before you laugh too hard at the Detroit car folks, give a thought to those who think yellow lenses look cool on a 911.

even a basic red lense would look better on that car.

Most states it's illegal to do that on ANY lights and license plates. To any extent.

That first pic w/ the headlights done... what are you thinking???

I was thinking I like the look of the lambo (pictured in this thread), the tinted head lamps look evil, so I tried it. End result was I did not like the reduced visibility of the high beams so I removed it.
