HP laser guys shoot first at front license plate as it has best reflection. The next best is headlight reflectors.

many states that only had rear plates have decreed that a front plate is now necessary. American Motorist Ass says it's because of laser revenue. AFAI know all US plates have that reflective metalflake like coating.

spy vs spy

based on this, a 924, 930 slantnose, and/or a Ferrari 308 come to mind as 'good defense'

Plate delete panel from the dealer. Best cosmetic $20 you can spend on a BMW.

When you said...

...leave the worthless tinted anti-laser plastic piece on...

...I assumed that it wouldn't matter if the plate was underneath.

So, you're saying the anti-laser plastic cover isn't really anti-laser... or works only against certain types of laser?

stripped out the holes on the front of the scubbie last time so it is on back of the visor for them to see if i get pulled over. the reg is up there too so it would be down by the time they get to the car.

collector plate on the back of the 911 so this is up front

My mom bought it for me a few years ago. It's heavy. A full mirror with the logo on it. I slapped a plastic cover over the top of it to protect it from damage.

As mentioned by a few others, get the factory filler plate that is designed to follow the lines of the original bumper. (they're inexpensive) Less than twenty bucks at Bavarian Autosport ... Couldn't find the part in the Pelican BMW catalog - but it may be worth a call to our host.

the anti-laser cover is supposed to be worthless in effectiveness but with it on without a plate underneath it mimics that I do have a plate when I don't so HP is shooting at it instead of going right to the headlight

that extra 3 or 4 seconds of free time allows car to slow down more

meanwhile this is all speculation on my part from what I've put together from research. I've been hit with laser when I should have been pulled over but haven't been so far.

So the ad in the back of Road & Track went something like this, right?

Seriously, I'm not sure I understand you... are you saying you didn't know it was worthless until you got zapped... or maybe you didn't buy it... it was on the car when you bought it?

So let's review to date...
  • Get the $20 plate-delete panel = 4.
  • Use some candy-ass front plate that will cost almost $20 = 29
Hmmm.....

I bought it before I had enough research to know it wasn't effective. Since then I've found that the Blinder electronic system does work against laser.

and my point was to fake the HP into targeting a plate that wasn't there so I could hopefully slow down before he started hitting my headlight

azasadny 10-13-2009 03:09 AM

I have a German plate from Wurzburg with my initials and birth date on it. It's real, not a "fake" plate. My friend got it for me right after I got the 911.

An American flag. It helps offset the guilt I feel when some jackass yells "Buy American next time!"
