Rennlist v. Pelican right now

Just stopped by rennlist 911 forum and there are 6 viewers on right now... pelican has 136 at the very same moment. That is saying something, sicne when I first began with the porsche forums in '02, I bet it was the reverse.
Nice job, Pelican. You have a great thing going.

I check them out once in a great while. It's like a ghost town over there.
This is the place to be.

I love this place, but the 993 forum on Rennlist gets WAY more traffic.

Absolutely. Their GT3 forum is also popular.

It's like comparing two cities based on neighborhoods.

My ISP has banned Rennlist, (I am in China). It seems it is a threat just like facebook! I have never had an explanation as to how what gets banned.

I don't see how that can't bother you. I would move to a free(er) country (and no, it doesn't 'have to be' the united states).

Also, do you hit a page saying 'The Government doesn't think you should visit this site', or does it just not load? Curious.

I think I have signed up once.
Never logged on though.
Haven't come across anything that could beat PP. The awesomness is strong in this site.

When I had the 924S I'd post a thread every now and then on how to fix some problem the car had and got very few replies. This board was much better for technical knowledge. I think everyone over there was more into playing around with shocks and things like that than keeping their cars alive and healthy.

I enjoy pelican, but I think it's got as much to do with the contents I'm looking for, based on what cars I've got right now, than anything else... Once a specific group of people settle on a forum, they tend to stay there and so does the good info... I think pelican is the only exception to this, it kinda naturally "stole" the aircooled 911 user base from rennlist at some point, I don't recall how (better moderation, more features?)...

To me,

- Pelican clearly is best at aircooled 911s forums... early to 964, I'd say !
- Early 911s registry is topping pelican on early cars, if you want seriously researched info (and a great mag)
- Rennlist has a better presence on the 993 board, at least it did when I had a 993...
- The PPBB boxster board is better at boxsters
- Planet Porsche is best on Caymans
- 912 registry BBS and 356 registry BBS are best at their respective subjects
- Renntech seems better at 996s

It really depends what you need... I like the OT on pelican most, since the political stuff was spliced out !

I strayed away from their watercooled board after noticing most of the people there were less worried about the tech aspect of taking car of their cars and more worried on what wheels look the coolest or what stereo sounded best.

The technical knowhow of the people on the 944 boards here is surpassed by none, especially when it comes to those emergency situations when you need to know what does what quick. I think we all like to think we can solve any people people throw down. Theres a good core of us that take that special kind of pride passing on the holy-grail information on belt servicing (as Hugh always did before he passed). It's a good community.

As is the one here in OT, for different reasons.

Where would we be without the classic threads involving Sniper converting a lesbian, Byron's open bar, Legion's work, my alcoholism, etc etc etc...

Or wait a couple of years. They are headed the opposite direction. China may be the beat place to live soon.

I used to be a paid subscriber to the 914 and 911 mailing lists. That was until I asked why they allowed motormeister to be a paid advertiser.
Got flamed big time, saying things like don't question the dunkel god, motormeister does good work, I was Satan, etc.
Haven't been back since.

I later heard that dunkel sold them out. payback's a beotch.
