This is precisely where your irrational "reasoning" fails. No one else should be held hostage to your unreasonable fears about what could happen. You simply have no way to demonstrate that your son is in any more or less danger because mine carries a pocket knife to school. None whatsoever. You only think he is.

I, on the other hand, can point to generation upon generation of anecdotal evidence, involving millions upon millions of children, that quite clearly demonstrates my postion that your son is in no danger from other kids having pocket knives at school. He is far more likely to get struck by lightening, or run over by a car, or any number of other things, than he is likely to be stabbed by a knife at school.

You are the one seeking to change others' behaviors to appease your own paranoia, not me. That is where we differ. I'm not demanding you change your behavior to satisfy my views on what you should or should not be allowed to do. Whatever it is you are doing, I will never ask you to change it so long as it does not demonstratably affect me. If society, as a whole, caved into every whacko's pet fears about what could happen if someone else is allwed to______ (fill in the blank), we would find ourselves hopelessly strangled and regulated.

Oh wait... we already are. I guess the hand-wringing ninnies are well and truly winning. Not because their arguments have any merit, but because of their shrill, foot-stamping persistance. Much like you.
