Any Joomla experts out there? Dynamically deactivate a menu?
I tried asking on some tech forums but the only responses I get are "why would you want to do that?"
So here's my question: So I'm using multiple Joomla templates for a website. When a customer clicks on the product demo, I switch to a different template. When that template becomes active, I want to disable some of the menus from the first template so they are not visible any more. Can't figure out a way to do this. Anyone know how? THanks!

I'm trashed right now so will respond tomorrow when sober.
Personally I'd like to see you switch to Drupal or Plone. Not as 'turnkey" as Joomla, requires more more initial work to customize but worth the effort. Joomla is a good product if you use it out of the box. Once you start getting into 3rd party modules/plugins and heavy customization it can get bloated and horrifically slow. Need to look at your templates, may be as simple as commenting out some includes.

Thanks for the heads up.
I picked Joomla mainly because only need a wrapper. Don't intent to use more than a few basic modules (LDAP and a few fancy menus.) so there won't be a lot of customization. Lots of PHP will be written underneath, but really only using Joomla for basic access (control authentication only) and navigation. I did figure out what I needed on the menus. Basically have to disable the menu's from certain views by making that menu not available when another menu item is selected. (Not sure if I explained that right, but it's working for my purpose. I'm going to be building a baked software demo and just needed something to display the 'meat' of the demo.

If you intend to write a lot of php then you do want to look at Drupal or Plone. If you need access to a good backend guy I encourage my guys to freelance. They get paid to improve their skill set and it benefits me for free ![]() Got this skinny little 24 year old who looks like he's 10 and has been getting paid to build commercial sites since he was 12 who is scary smart. I give him a month to do stuff that should take two months and he does it in a week. He's a car enthusiast as well. PM me if you want his contact info.
