Cash for Clunkers List - Read and Weep

Came across this in another forum (Audizine). It's a list of cars turned in for the Cash for Clunkers program. Made me cringe to see some of the stuff turned in...including some Porsches. No telling what condition any of the cars were in, but there were some nice (at least at one time) cars trashed...

There a lot of idiots out there. There were a ton of cars on that list that had to be worth more than $4500.

I'd imagine that those cars were pretty beat up.

That said, a 1989 base model 944 has the one-year only 2.7 8 valve motor. This motor is highly desirable as it is allowed to run in spec 944 racing but produces more power than the previous 2.5 8 valve. That engine block alone from a non-running car is worth more money than the clunker trade-in assuming it's not damaged. And the feds destroyed three of them.

It's also pretty sad to see a 928 S4 go too. That and the GTS would be the only 928s I would consider owning (largely because they are the most powerful, best looking, and were widely available with a manual).

KAHN!

Over 200 BMW 325's, but only 87 Pontiac Aztecs????

An Aston Martin DB7 Volante?

My favorite statistic is the corvettes... 120ish IIRC. It's no surprise that no 911s were turned in.

No, I was simply speaking of the rare 89 944 NA with the 2.7.

The S2 is a travesty on its own, but I could see not wanting to put the money into one to get it running. (Not that I wouldn't try.) But there's no excuse for turning in a 2.7. Racers will pay THOUSANDS for just a non-running engine.

87 Aztecs? That was around 90% of units sold, by my estimate.

Cash for clunkers...a real shot in the arm for the (Japanese) auto industry.

Yep, I'm well aware of the 2.7 and might even know of one sitting around

Some one needs to be shot for what happened, and not just the idiots who took the CFC....

Probably something they didn't have on the pre-approved list, like a 908 or something.

You knew lists like this were going to become available, and there would be some great cars that went tits ahoy.

I'm not surprised by any car on that list at all. We've all seen the 2500 dollar BMW 7 series or 5 series Mercedes, and we all know why those cars are so cheap on the secondhand market.

Too bad a few more Azteks didn't make the grade. Still puke when I see 'em.

Some nasty body kit having mess. You know those thing we link to on ebay?

I saw one of those camper/perversion vans traded in at my local Toyota dealer. I think they got all sorts of mess.
