Anyone having issues with Skype chat and phishing attempts?

I was chatting with a friend last night and he started to tell me that every time I hit enter, Windows Defender would pop up and say that there was a phishing attempt. I typed a few random things and each time this happened. He was tired and went to bed, so we left it unsolved. He was going to try and restart his computer and see if it was on his end.

A little while ago, I was talking with a friend in Europe and she is concerned about phishing attempts coming from America. I have been searching Google and I find a lot of info, but it is either old or not really of much help.

I am scanning my computer, but so far nothing is coming up.

Any ideas, help, what not would be greatly appreciated. I really don't want to lose this friend.

Thanks.

P.S. I don't need to hear the typical smarta$$ responses.

Not sure if this has anything to do with your situation..

However someone, somewhere, somehow, either skimmed my debit card, or cracked a cc order I did online...

And used my card for a bunch of Skype and another calling service charges..

I notified my bank and was credited for all the bogus charges..

I got something this morning on Skype saying that I had to go to a specific website and download some scanner because I was infected. Blocked the ID and reported it as a problem. There is too much crap out there. I never click on anything unless I specifically requested it

Dave I got a phishing warning on FB chat last night when talking to you. Of course I was talking to 2 girls at the time so it could have come from either of them...

Tim, nothing to do with bank cards...

I can't even find any recent news on phishing scams coming from the U.S.

My laptop is pretty clean, one minor thing found, but it had to do with collecting email addresses, but I use a webmail client from my own email server. It would not be able to grab any addresses.

kolies - Can you elaborate.. If it was one of those random screen names, then it was a scam.
I get those on occasion. Always block them as well.

Sidney, not sure about your issues, especially after you said it had to do with you refreshing your own FB page.

OK, I guess now I need to clarify...

It was not with Skype at all, but Facebook...

I had a friend on FB (and here), tell me that he has heard of the issue as well. I was not chatting with him, so I think it is FB related. Now to find out what....
