Wheeler Dealers on HD net buy a Porsche 928

Did anyone else see 'Wheeler Dealers' the English show on HD net last night ? They did a nice job on bringing a Porsche 928 back.
I have always liked the 928 but had never seen a brown one until the one featured on the show last night.
It really made me think.

You can find their show on YouTube too. It'll be cut up into small pieces.

The host is a douche IMO and the mechanic is 700 feet tall.

Those guys do a good job of patching up a car just enough to make it look good to sell. I'm not saying that the mechanic doesn't know what he's doing - he does, and it's entertaining to watch him fix things, but my dad (a car guy and mechanic) said it best - "I wouldn't buy a sandwich from those guys."

I saw their episode on a Porsche 924. They bought it, fixed it up, and sold it for something like 3 times what they paid for it I think, maybe more. They basically gave it a run of the mill tune up, fluids, cleaned up the wheels, did some bondo over the rust spots and spray can guards red'd it, vacuumed her out and shipped her off.

I'm not sure how much disclosure was taken with the seller, but yea... I wouldn't buy a car from em.

The mechanical work they do is usually just good enough to make her go down the road semi-straight....

I still found it a pretty cool show... I just wish they'd take it a little further and put some more money in it- but then they wouldn't be making any money flipping the cars I guess...

That's what separates those kind of car flippers from real enthusiasts.

Bro, that's what any used car dealership does. And that kind of profit margin is typical.

The car was a 78 or a 79. Lvoe 928's - one great driving car and easy to live with. I rather enjoyed the show but was a little surprised at what they did on the brakes.

Had a sticky caliper so they replaced all four calipers. OK. Good idea, but to save money, most would have rebuilt the calipers. They spent a bunch of money replacing them. Then didn't replace all the brake fluid. Just bled and walked away on a car that had sat for years. Really should have changed all the brake fluid on a car that sits like that, especially one that goes pretty darn fast AND has expensive calipers...

They did a pretty decent job on the repaint for the car. Took out the side windows, removed the doors etc. Atrocious body work by the mechanic on the quarter panel. He pronounced it "done" and ready for paint at a point where I would say it was maybe 1/3 of the way properly smoothed. He seems to be a pretty competant wrench, but for the record - step away from the body tools before you hurt yourself. There's no end in that end of the pool for someone wearing water wings.

UR reading my mind Aegela. He also put the bondo right over the previous paint. Should have been down to bare metal.

Traded some very expensive BBS wheels straight across for a set of ratty phone dials.......Good show though.....Great channel, I watch it all the time.......

You saw that too? Tell you what, I thought Steve was going to choke on his drink when he saw the guy do that...

Then he left it so incredibly rough that no self respecting painter would have shot over the top of it. It looked good when it was done, so clearly someone intervened.

The funny part of the show is when the painter guy is looking the car over and explaining to the show host that it's already been painted several times! Did you see the look on the host's face? I busted up laughing on that one! The host had missed the previous repaints!

I really dislike BBS wheels, but on that car I'd have given serious consideration to painting the centers body color and cleaning up the rims. Maybe not a full polish on the rim, but just a real good cleaning. The phone dials looked very good after being cleaned up.

I'd have also re-dyed the driver's seat. The rest of that interior was really nice. Kind of makes me jones a little for a 928. Something nicely decadent, an S4 or GT...

The show made me spend around several hours today reading and researching 928 ownership. I am going to approach it the same way I did my first Porsche and wait for he best one, in the 'right color' I can afford ... but at some point I am going to have one.
