Pizza Hut Manager?

Anyone have any experience as one of these? Any input appreciated. Salary? Chance for advancement? Hours?

My son manages a Papa Johns. He seems to like it, although it does carry with it the standard dealing with the public at large and employees.

Dennis - I'm sure the hours will suck. I worked my way through college doing retail jobs. You're stuck working weekends, holidays, nights, etc. The worst part is you usually can't get a steady schedule - it'll change from week to week. However, I did have a lot of fun, but I guess that's relative to your age.

I like having off when everyone else is working. Going out on the lake on a Thursday is better than on a weekend!

When you're out of college, it becomes a real drag, as you can't go places for holidays easily, and it makes spending time with a girlfriend difficult.

I got an internship in the corporate world in college. It was nice that I could still go home for Christmas and such...

True - being free when everyone else is working is nice for getting things done (great for hitting the mountain in the winter). However, I assume you have friends and trying to find time to hang with them becomes a challenge. When I was doing retail (3-4 jobs 7 days a week during holiday breaks), I only hung out w/ other retail folks, because they were the only ones that were available the same crazy hours I was. Even then it was a pain, since your schedule kept shifting. Even when I was a manager at an Abercrombie store, I couldn't keep a steady schedule. If no one else is available to fill in a shift, guess who gets to work it....

Legion's advice is a much better way to go. It'll set you up for success and keep you sane in the process.

I was a server at Bertucci's for a night job when I took my first 100% commission sales day job. Man, dealing with the general public sucks. I really hate everyone. And they were far better in No. Virginia than the scum that came into the Uno's I worked at in DC. I can't imagine Pizza Hut is any better, though it's probably easier for young folks. I wouldn't last a day in either of those jobs if I had to do it again.

The hours suck. 3 to midnight, later on weekends.
your day off would most likely be tuesday or thursday
the only advancement you could hope for would be area supervisor, & that was not going to happen unless you wanted to be a lifer in the pizza biz

Location makes a difference as well... Nice thing is that Pizza Hut (unless it has changed a lot) closes around midnight, maybe earlier. The only way to find out is to try it out.. Is working in the F&B biz something you want to do???? If you have an Outback in your area, you should check them out...

My first job in high school was as a dishwasher at an Italian restaurant. I worked until 11:00 p.m. week nights and until 1:00 a.m. weekends. I also did stints as a pizza maker and a cook--but the hours never changed. As this was a one-off restaurant owned by the manager, I knew there was no room for advancement.

My senior year I got a job as a bank teller. The bank closed at 7:00 p.m. week nights and at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. And it paid better. I felt like I had WAY more free time too. There was room for advancement (personal banker, branch manager), but even that was way too competitive for relatively low-paying jobs. And banks today (didn't then) merge and shed staff when the economy sneezes...or heats up...or stays the same...

Pizza Hut manager is a job, but it not a job you do for life unless you manage to live in your parents basement your whole life. Most retail/restaurant jobs don't pay the bills--even for the management. I'd say it's okay to do, but be actively looking for something better that is a career.

This is not a permanent move. I am a sales guy with experience in real estate an IT. Both fields are very slow right now. I think IT will come back before real estate, so I am also looking in that area.

True story

A friends girl friend at the time was working for McDonalds. We joked her hard. All through college she stayed with McDonalds and we kept joking her hard. She graduated and they got married. Still at McDonalds and nobody is joking her now. She's big time East Coast Corporate.

My best friend and I worked for PH back in the 80's. I know our store manager made good money back then(for the times).

We had a ton of fun during the night shifts. I still make ham and cheese sandwiches and italian subs the way we did back then.

If you need to supplement your income, go for it. You never know, it may be the right career for you.

It's a bit of a sweat shop + all of the above. BUT... It's good on your work record. You stuck it out for two years at pizza hut so you are no pussy.
