I'm 27 and was diagnosed with glaucoma about 5 years ago (Thanks Air Force Class I Medical....lost my F-16 Guard slot, but saved my eyes).

I still have 20/10, no nerve damage, and fine field of vision, but I still have to take my medicine daily.

Eyes are not something to mess around with...

59 and still can read the smaller print on the chart at the dmv. night vision is still very good.
on the other hand, as far as tiny print on labels and such......reading glasses come in handy.

I am the same. Glasses at 51 for far vision (try a dark rainy night at 180MPH looking for a runway). Near vision (reading) is better without the glasses.

It's the age.

At 48, I'm a long time contact lens wearer. My close vision was good until about a year ago. Now I can't read without reading glasses or an extra foot of length in my arms. Will be going for laser correction, but was told this will do little for reading and will still require reading glasses.

Vision at night, in the rain? fagedaboudit.

bad eyesight

January 2008, I had a cataract removed from my left eye. November 2008, I suddenly lost vision in my left eye due to a detached retina. Had to endure emergency surgery and I was out of work for 3 months and almost lost my home. January 2009, my vision became cloudy in my right eye and had to have cataract surgery for that. I am nervous now because it was almost 1 year ago when i had the detached retina under the same circumstances and am worried it may happen to my right eye. I am going to be 46 next Sunday. If I suffer another detached retina, I am going to be screwed. I have 3 kids ages 3, 5,and 6 and I am worried more about supporting them than I am about myself.

Last time I got checked it was something stupid like 20-550 and the optomitrist couldn't test higher than that, i can't see the big "E" on top of the eye chart and evan with the glasses I can only read 4 lines down. You guys with the 20-20 are so lucky. I'm blonde, blue and have heard that that combo is more prone to bad eyes.
meents, sorry to hear about your problems, makes me feel like a turd for mentioning mine, hang in there

Thats when we let the copilots take that leg and landing. Problem is my last copilot could not fly IFR worth a damm, so this old fart gets to shoot it anyway.

Its hell getting old but the option aint much better. Good place for "cheaters" is the .99c store. I have them in every room in the house and every car.

I hung up my night driving gloves several years ago. 34y/o with an astigmatism. I see fine early in the day but it gets progressively worse. as the hours go by. Contacts or glasses help, but I haven't found a combination that eliminates the glare.

Thank You for the kind words. After my surgery I had to remain in bed at a inclined position for 1 week and had to wear a plastic patch over my eye to prevent scratching it. It itched like crazy from the stitches in my eye. I was lucky. Some people have to lie flat on their stomach for 1 week. I also had a gas bubble put in my eye and that drove me nuts because it's like looking through a bubble in a carpenter's level . Every time you move your head this damn bubble bounces around in the center of your vision. It's pressurized to reform your eyeball and because of that ,you can't go through any altitude changes. (no flying or mountain travel) The gas bubble slowly goes away on it's own as your eye heals. On the positive side, everything is going great now. My corrected vision with glasses is 20/20 in my right eye and 20/30 in my left eye. I have been back at work since last March and was able to keep the house. The really great news is when I come home from work and open the garage, there is still a beautiful 911 sitting there waiting for me. Guys, please take care of your eyes and if you have a sudden change in your vision, get to doctor right away. I would have gone blind if I had'nt went in as soon as I did.
