how to... carfax.

Most of us went through the long process of looking for our car, especially 911, and most used carfax. As we all know, each carfax license is only sold for a month, the longest. If you can't find the car, and the deal you want, you need to purchase carfax again. And if this process go on continuously for long, it'll become a monthly service. Anyone know another website/service, group by (whatever works) to avoid this "monthly" service"?

See my post "CPO BMW" on carfax. Carfax is generally for those consumers that really don't want a ppi and think that it clears any accident issues the car may have. I do believe it has some value in finding salvage or re titled cars and is still recommended. But I would guess most damage done on 911's are not even done with insurance money, making a carfax useless. Any good ppi would reveal any prior damage.

I look at Carfax as just another tool in the PPI process.
While Carfax certainly is not as complete as their ads would like you to believe, it can offer a heads up warning to your PPI inspector.

Carfax is $40 per month for unlimited runs. If your car search takes 6 months, you have spent $240. Not a bad investment if it helps steer you away from a bad car.

It is also not a bad investment to keep you from wasting time doing PPIs on cars that do have reported accident histories. I know the time it takes me to do a thorough PPI is worth much more than $40.

Think of it as cheap insurance.
