I had my first lucid dream last night.

It was incredible... actually life changing. I've been trying on and off for about a year now, and actually thought I was successful a couple times but I obviously wasn't. This was absolutely ridiculous fun.

It was a normal dream at first, like a movie from the first person perspective. I was walking out of a parking lot and I noticed the shoes I was wearing and then thought, wow those are real I actually have those. Then I rationalized that I was asleep and had to be dreaming... then boom... I took complete control, sprinted out of the parking lot onto the street and FLEW!! It felt so real, even though obviously I have never flown. It was so awesome, I can't wait for it to happen again.

Anyone ever have a lucid dream?

Thinkfloyd, what happened to your post responding to Cashflyer's obviously calloused and rude post? It's gone! Now my post makes no sense.

In all seriousness, what is a "lucid dream?" Is that a term of art of some kind?

This will give Tabs a field day...

I have realized that I was dreaming many times when I was dreaming. Once was right after my 944S caught fire. I dreamed that it burning was a dream. Then I woke up from the dream to another dream within the dream, only this time my car was still totaled.

But that's not how they usually go. Usually when I realize I'm dreaming, the dream goes south quickly. I always suddenly find myself in danger, running. The person chasing me always turns out to be my father. (He's been dead for three years and I've been having this dream since I was 5.) I always escape by flying, staying just out of reach. I always fly by "swimming" in the air, usually with the sidestroke.

My lucid dreams usually have to do with me and a female celebrity but some of them have to do with zombies

When I was in college I got trashed and dreamed I was eating a 30 lb marshmallow. Woke up and my pillow was gone..

Seriously, I often dream I'm at a concert backstage and the band can't find the drummer. They grab me and throw me onto the stage to play drums. I've never played drums in my life. I wake up when the crowd starts booing me unmercilessly.

Been lucid dreaming nightly for over 30 years. It's a great feeling and totally fun.

Easiest method is to tell yourself over and over in your head while you are trying to fall asleep is that you are going to look at your primary hand(usually right for a righty or left for a lefty) in your dream.

Keep thinking over and over, "I"m going to look at my right hand in my dream." while you fall asleep. Some people say taking a couple of aspirins prior helps....I never needed to.

It may take weeks before you will look at your hand.

The first time it happens you will be amazed.

I have not needed the trigger of looking at my hand for years now......

Lucid dreaming is when you realize that you are dreaming within your dream, you then can take control over your dream and do whatever you want and it feels real...at least thats how I understand it. and Yes, you can even have sex, but instead of a normal sex dream, you can actually take control. Normally dreams are like watching a movie, lucid ones are more like playing a video game. You are in control.

Here's the wiki link,http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lucid_dream

honest to god, I promise all of you that it is quite an experience, and amazing fun. I woke up happy and well rested.

That's a good tip and I will have to try that. I hope to get to that level some day. I also hear writing the letter A on one of your hands helps with that.

I don't use an alarm clock and most of my dreams lately are about time.
Like one where I was on a tour bus in Mexico and it was stalled, it just wasn't moving, I was getting a Little exercised and finally got up to get off, the driver said, if you get off, you can't get back on, I said OK, and stepped off. I woke up right then and it was four after six, I always wake up at six.

We discussed Lucid dreaming in psych the other day... Hadn't thought about trying to accomplish it though. We were discussing its applications in getting rid of nightmares....

Hmm, I think I've had some lucid dreams. I know that I've had dreams before, thought, "this isn't what I want to be doing" and changed the dream. I rarely remember my dreams after I wake up, sometimes I'll have a vague idea of a dream that fades to nothing within 30 minutes of waking up.

I do remember a couple of years ago, having several dreams over the course of a couple of weeks where I taught myself to fly and was eventually pretty good at it. I vividly remembered those, and still do. It was very weird and very cool. They weren't the same dream, but they were very similar and sometimes continuations almost like a TV series.

I'm curious to try to induce lucid dreaming. I'm going to work on the look at my hand thing.

Ah, the lucid dream- I remember it vividly.

I was driving my friend's 944 Turbo on a novice track day, and I slid off between Turn One and Turn Two. I was watching the Ferrari that just passed my down the main straight, and that little bit of attention away from my own driving was enough to get two wheels off in the braking zone.

Time slowed down, way down. In slow motion, the car kept sliding through the grass towards the tire wall.

Sliding...

Sliding...

Time to wake up before we hit.

Oh, bummer! This isn't a dream!

I ended up writing a healthy check to replace a fender, bumper cover, a new paint job, and an alignment.

I remember this dream I had over a year ago. I was somehow dating this woman (black hair and blue eyes, i guess sorta like megan fox hotness) and we were doing stuff. I suppose that was a lucid dream because I was thinking of doing stuff with her and I did. Worst thing was that at the end of the dream was that she was like you know i'm not real and i was like no no no, and then woke up.
