It appears he is on the loose.
8 shot confirmed. 1 channel says 1 dead, another says 2. Jason Rodriguez is the guys name, and he was apparently let go from an engineering firm. Our main highway is completely shut down. Why don't these psychos just shoot themselves in the head?

He's probably headed to his ex-wifes office or lawyers office.

Yeah, they just caught him. Well they caught him a bit ago (as of posting this).
It was totally messed up. They shut down I-4 and were locking down buildings and schools. And of course the media was having a frenzy trying desperately to make more out of it than what it is. It was a guy going postal. Plain and simple. The thing that gets me is they shut down major thoroughfares and locked down buildings and huge areas of the city, all for someone going postal. Yet, when there is a robbery, car-jacking, or home invasion, there is NEVER this level of shall we say attention by the authorities. So let us review the facts, or as I call them data points: - Guy going postal, people hurt and or killed, lock the city down. - Cop shot hurt and or killed, lock the city down. - Home-invasion with shooting, people hurt and or killed, maybe lock a block down, two at most, throw in the helicopter for visual effect. - Car-jacking with shooting, people hurt and or killed, see home-invasion above. - Store/bank robbery with shooting, people hurt and or killed, see home-invasion above. Can anybody please shed light on why any of the above should be treated differently? All involved carrying out armed violence. All involve people either hurt or killed. Note for the latter three I am only considering specific cases where a fire-arm was used and not instances where no fire-arm was involved on the part of the offender. To paraphrase the movie Departed, when you are dealing with a loaded gun, what's the difference? |

It's the motivating factors.
Guy going postal is killing indiscriminately. Anyone and everyone is a target and he's probably looking for more. Cop shot, well they tend to not like it when you shot at them. Someone who willingly shots a cop is capable of unchecked violence and also now has nothing to lose. The others are controlled acts of random most likely one time violence.

Sorry, but I do not see the difference between indiscriminate and random.
To be indiscriminate would be the same as to be random. (ref definition of indiscriminate, as neither definition is of my making). I also fail to see where control comes into play. Most of the offenders of any of the above mentioned are not in control. They are out of control. If they were in control, one would perhaps consider the impact they are having on precious human life which is not theirs. Perhaps where you live, the latter three are one-time affairs. However here in ORL, lets just say there is a growing "repeat" problem here. |
