what is the least expensive car that you have ever purchased? most expensive?

i think my answer is boring. cheapest. a chevy LUV pickup truck i tried to hotrod with a small block. $700. project died, because you need real money, even in high school.

most expensive? i think it is my mazdaspeed3, at $23k out the door. some of my co-workers buy nothing but disposable sub $1k cars...amazing.

$100 for an E30 325e. I actually gave the kid who sold it to me $20 more so I could store it at his place for a week. It didn't run, but turned over. I think it had close to 200,000 miles on it.

Anyhow, got it home and figured out it was missing a crank trigger pin. Without removing engine and tranny, I drilled a hole in the tranny bell housing, drilled out what was left of the trigger pin (it sheared off) and put in a set screw I had in my shop and it fired right up!

It then started to leak fuel. One of the lines on top of the fuel tank was leaking, so I replaced it with hose from NAPA. I also replaced the fuel pump just because. I replaced an IAC valve and module, and it was rock steady. The thing was a hoot to drive on my back roads test loop. I eventually sold it to some friends for a Lemons race car for about what I had into the car. it lives to this day...

That was the least expensive, the next one was a E30 318is for $750 .. .longer story with that one, but it never did run. It had a broken cam shaft and I never got around to replacing it. I bought a bunch of parts for it to turn it into a E30 Spec racer, then the family thing consumed my time. I eventually sold it with a bunch of parts (all the parts I collected for) for $3500 non-running.

The most expensive was my wife's Outlook. That is the only car I ever bought new, and it will probably be the last.....

I bought a 72 Cutlass for $20. It came with a full tank of gas. Sold it for $1200. Most expensive? My RS America, bought it $22,000. Sold it for $22,000. Don't remember how much gas it came with, but it did come and go with a bent frame.

I bet that $9300 in 74 would have been a good down payment on a Ferarri 250 GTO. Imagine that.

$1100 for a 1979 Rabbit GTI in 1995. Drove for almost three years daily. I put nothing in it but gas and oil. Sold for $3300

Best investment in a vehicle I ever made.

My 1st car was a 1960 VW bug. I paid 600 bucks for that.

I sold it two years later for a brand new 1973 Super Bug that was 2,700.

I traded that in on my new 1974 914 2.0 that I special ordered for $6,750

The most expensive is my current 85 Carrera, I bought it 14 years ago and it is still worth what I paid for it.

I don't count my wife's current car. My name is on the title but I don't see it as "my" car.

Datsun 1200 coupe for $70 at a yard sale. The battery was bad and they said it wouldn't start. Started just fine after I put gas in the tank. Drove that for 3 years. Gutless wonder...

Early honda civic CVCC for $50 at an impound auction. (Driving while suspended impound). I poured gas in the carb and it fired up. I wound up fleeing the car on the drive home as it was infested with red ants!!! Very exciting in traffic!!! Sold it for $500 after I cleaned the interior out - LOL!

91 Civic SI for $900, salvage title. Great little car. Couple of hundred in sheetmetal and some paint, sold it for $3500. Reposessed it when they owed $300 on the car and sold it a second time for $3500! Made good money on that car.

$200 for my 68 chevy stepside. Drove that truck for around 10 years. Did have to put an engine and a trans in it. Sold it for about $3 and cried for two days...

My 91 Pathfinder was $900 or $1000 which is pretty cheap for a running driving working 4x4 with cold a/c.

The most expensive car? Well, that would be the spyder - LOL!

Least-VW Rabbit Diesel from a bandmate for $1.00.

Most-Chevy Blazer, used, for $18,000.

I have never wanted to have car payments that were more than a few hundred a month so I never bought a reeeeallly nice, new car.

Now, we can't afford a reeeeally nice , new car so it works out. I would like to have something nice, though.

In 1970, I bought a rusted out 59 Chevy Belaire for $45. I sold it two years later for $75. Bought the DB4 for $1,750 in 1971 and sold it in 2006 for $250K. Most expensive I've bought, I think my current DD, a 2008 Camry Hybrid (new). Bought through my BIL who works for ToyotaUSA at close to true dealer cost $26,6xx IIRC.

70'ish Datsun 510 2-door $500, daily driver for a few years. That was in the late 80's.

my first car was a '65 Ford Galaxie 4-door fully loaded - given to me. Peeling paint, bailing wire holding the bumper, burn & leaked oil like crazy!

Besides being given my first car a 74' Dodge Dart swinger from my Mom. The cheapest deal I made for a car was trading a North Face one piece ski suit and $200 for a 1969 1600 Datsun Roadster in 1986. It ran poorly when I got it but after about a month of TLC and replacing brake lines etc. I drove that car from Half Moon Bay to Palo Alto 5 days a week for about a year with very little trouble. End up selling it here in Colorado 20 years ago for $4500. Was a fun ride.

Most expensive is a 2008 BMW 335 XI recently totaled. I ll miss that car. Replacing it this weekend with a 328 XI.

Posted prices need to be inflation and content (required safety, emissions plus "standard" equipment) adjusted for them to be truly meaningful.

I was given a 1964 Anglia. Had to use a jack to get the fenders off of the wheels to drive it home. It would run 50 mph downhill. that was before I had a license.
First purchase was a Plymouth Cricket in 1978 for $300. Drove it for several years. Several cheap VW bugs mixed in there also.
