Cherry Poptarts

I swear the vending machine guys in my building are lazy.

If they put Dolly Madison crumb cakes in them, they sell out in an hour or two...but that means they have to restock the machines every day. So they mostly put cherry Poptarts in the "junky non-potato carb" tray. Why cherry Poptarts? Because they don't sell. It can take weeks for a tray to sell out of them. Cinnamon poptarts are gone in about a day, and strawberry ones in a day or two. I rarely see either. I haven't seen thos crumb cakes in YEARS.

Does anyone else hate cherry poptarts? They really are the red-headed step children of the poptart family...

I mostly agree; I can't stand any of the fruit poptarts. Cinnamon is the best IMO.

Are they frosted? Frosted are best, if they are frosted, then I like Cherry, Strawberry (best fruity) and Cinnamon (best non-fruity).

Yeah, I see the same sort of behavior here. They don't put in what sells, I think they put in whatever they can get cheapest.

What they really need are these.

Freakin' awesome. I think they are made of highly processed flour, lard and high fructose corn syrup.

And, if you can't read the label, those are "Automatic Merchandiser Monthly -- Readers Choice Award -- 2005, 2006, 2007 (and on the newer labels 2008)"

This is my other favorite "junky non-potato carb"
The little ones that come 5-6 to a package.

Yes, all of the poptarts here are frosted.

I personally like the strawberry ones both frosted and unfrosted. Cinnamon and chocolate (NLA at work) must be frosted.

Not so much but it does lead to the better question which is.................Why in the H*ll don't vending maching people re-stock what sells?? My partner and I discuss this all the time with the food/beverage vendors that serve us !! It drives us crazy !!
.
I even ask the dumb-*ss vending-machine-stocker-guy (intro with Budlight music)why this is? I ask him straight-up why doesn't he re-fill with only popular items for that stop ? I swear to God that he replies that he only restocks what "they" put on the truck? WTF !! I said who is "they" ??

At HS I would always tell the guy to throw out that junk that never sold and add a second row of what sold.... Hmm... Guess these guys failed economics 101...

You can't just bring your own Pop-Tarts to work? They have a strict pastry policy?

They buy big cases of stuff @ CostCo/Sam's Club, but there's all different varieties in the case. The popular stuff sells out, and their only option is to leave the unpopular stuff in until someone is hungry enough to eat it.

if you can find them, try the Buttercrumb version of this roll.

I lost $1.00 in a machine yesterday trying to get one of these babies. The first one got stuck and I had to put in another buck but only got one. S much as I wanted to punch the vendor, I hated it when my customers would do this so I didn't.

PopTarts have a looooong shelf life so they are a good "filler". What many outside of the vending industry don't realise is that most companies have Plan-o-grams so they HAVE to put in certain items. This always frustrated me because it was not always what our customers wanted. I hated telling someone that we couldn't put in more than 1 row of their favorite item because we had to have other items that were mandate by the manufacturers.

No wonder we went out of business.

what pisses me off more than anything (well, maybe not...but still) are prices of $1.10 for the snacks, or 55 cents for a can of pop. I will intentionally avoid buying those, just because they felt it necessary literally "nickel and dime" me.

just think how many more they'd sell if the cans were 50 cents?

"Cherry PopTarts"

For some stupid reason, I thought this thread was going to be about young nubile females. Never mind.

.55 for a can of pop and you're complaining?!!! We were charging 1.00 per can and 1.45 for 20oz. bottles.

While it may seem like nickel and diming you this is the only way a vendor can try to make up the extra costs that are passed to him from the manufacturers.

In the last 3 years, we were given(non-negotiable) increases from the all of the major candy companies. I think the total from one company was 25%. This was in addition to increases, again non-negotiable, from the pop companies.

I was laid off and my company closed after 75 years because it had gotten so hard to make a profit without gouging the customer. There isn't much left of a $1.00 once you subtract your costs.

And typically you don't sell more items at .50 than .55. I tested this in different markets with my customers and the difference was neglible.

My question back to a customer in a situation like yours was to ask, "What does this same product cost at the convenience store?" Chances are that, barring a special sale or promotion, the cost was the same or even higher and we save you the time/gas/frustration of having to go get it during your lunch time.

Pop Tarts without a toaster make for a bleak and barren landscape. Kind of like non dairy creamer and styrofoam cups. MMMM, nummy.
