1984 Isuzu Pup for $700 in 1989. It was beat to hell and the passenger door fell off the hinges when I opened it. Fixed the hing pin with a 16 penny nail and drove the thing for two years on a paper route in college. Over 40k miles put on it. It had a bad air pump so every time your would wind it out and back off the gas, it would backfire and shoot a flame about 2'. It was crazy loud....I once was going down a dirt road and happened to back off of it just as I was passing an old hunting dog walking along the side of the road. When that exhaust pipe rang out, the poor dog thought it had been shot. It yelped out loud and fell over in the ditch. I almost wrecked laughing so had. I slammed on brakes and looked back as the dog jumped up and ran away yelping....still kills me to this day.

Cheapest car? My 1983 Porsche 911 SC. It was given to me by my best friend.

Most expensive? My 1983 Porsche 911 SC. 3.6 conversion/oil cooling overkill/brakes/suspension/new interior/new paint...

Cheapest: '79 Chevy Silverado. My parents bought me a car when I turned 16, but I got tired of them telling me when I could and couldn't drive it. After a few months I took $1250 of my hard earned lawn mowing money and bought the truck. We called it the sh!#mobile, it was more rust than body. The driver's side bench was missing it's foam, which I remedied with a block of foam and a seat cover from Wal-Mart. The passenger side suspension was sagging so it looked like a listing ship. On the upside it had a rebuilt 350 4 barrel and a 3.90 rear end, it would powerbrake all day long.:D

Most: 2003 Toyota 4Runner 4x4 Sport that we bought new, $34k. First car I bought new, first car I financed. Also the last for both. After 65k flawless miles I sold it to Paul (Seahawk) who reports that it is still trouble free. Great SUV.

I can't remmember the dollars, but a girl was selling a honda civic for next to nothing because the engine was blowing A LOT of smoke. I asked about oil changes and she explained she put a litre in a week so every four weeks it's effectively had a complete oil change. I drove it home and changed the oil, drove it for half an hour then changed the oil again and put in a couple of cans of "worn engine" additive. I enjoyed that car for the next three years before it had any problems.

I turned 16 in 1986. I think my parents paid $900 for my first car, a '65 Impala.

I've managed to purchase several cars that were $400-500 and a few more that were $1000 or less.

My old 911 was a hair under $20k and was the most exp car I've ever bought. I paid just under $15k for the Jeep liberty that we bought for my step-daughter. I've bought 2 or 3 that were in the $12k-9.5k range, and several that were under $5k.

one of my co-workers was poking fun at me for driving "such an old school BMW"....until i reminded him that my car was cheaper than one of his monthly payments on his '06 BMW.

I got that free '83 BMW for my wife a while ago, too.

My neighbor died 8 yrs. ago...I bought his flawless, but dead, '88 Ford Festiva LX (Mazda B3 1.3L, 5 spd.) from his daughter for $100 at the estate sale. At 56k miles the distributor failed, he didn't want to pay Ford their $300+ price ("My father was frugal.", she said), so it sat for 6 years in his garage.

I yanked a wrecking yard dist. for $65...poked it in, installed an extra inline fuel filter, drained gas tank/added fresh, changed oil/filter, jumped it, she fired right up, I drove it down the street to my place...daughter was slack-jawed.

About $200 in parts/fluids.
The car gets 32 - 36 mpg all around and 48 - 52 mpg hwy @ 60 mph.
I just drove it about 2 hours ago...running errands...small & zippy car...love it!

I bought a very nice '65 Mustang (actualy '64 1/2) for $100 in '76.

1957 Ford Ranch Wagon $10. in 1968. Drove it for 6 months, sold it for $200. Owner came into the gas gas station I worked at, had no brakes working on it, said give me $10 it's yours. Handed me the Pink Slip right then an there. Perfect paint & interior chrome reverse rims, T-bird motor, with two 4 barrels on it. Gas was 27 cents a gallon for 100 octane.

$200 for a 77 Camaro (burning oil) in 2002

and many cars and trucks around $1-2k that needed a little help to be resold later for a little more ...

Paid $500 for my first car (944). Then another $150 to tow it home...

$250 on a Saab 900 Turbo Cab. Bright yellow. no top. sat out in the rain. It ran though.

We shimmed up the wastegate, cracked open the boost and did a few passes down the street it in. Fast as ****. After slamming it on the 1-2 a few times it blew out 2nd gear.

Later that week I wadded it up on a rally stage and barely walked out alive. We pulled a few parts off of it and left it.

I had the car a grand total of 4 days I think.

The oil cooler lived on in a honda civic rally car that met a similar fate.

The turbocharger became the basis for a kerosene jet turbine in my friend's garage.

Least: My truck I drive every day, $1,000, the old man I bought her from told me he wished he could ask more but she is old. I didn't argue. I have also turned down a 3k offer for her trans.

Most: The wife's Mercedes. Bought it less than a year old, 25k

Least expensive? A Ford Fiesta for about $500. Great car!!!

Most Expensive? Our 2000 Honda Odyssey which we bought new for something like $28K. Also a great vehicle!

I bought a '59 VW Bug in 1973 for $350.00 dollars.
