Just Bought My First BMW

Just bought the wife an E39 540. Our first BMW. Great car with loads of punch. Paid a premium for it but we are the third owners and it's only got 98,000kms on the clock. Both previous owners were elderly folk. I'm stoked..

Looks great! I never liked BMW before, but I also got my first last month. More of budget model - a 1998 E36 320i. One previous owner, 60 years old lady. Only 56000 km! I guess its like 35k miles. Its literary feeling brand new. Very pleased with it. Although its the smallest six cylinder (2.0 L), it has a lovely sound and not thirsty at all.

I had the same car a few years ago when we lived in Switzerland. Same colour even. Great combination of style and power. Not too big, not too small. One of the nicest all around Beemers ever IMO.

Great car! Find a set of staggered CSL wheels and you're good to go!

I can get 28ish combined MPG with my 328...unless you drive 100+ miles a day, I don't see a convincing reason to trade off the (addicting) torque of the larger sixes.

Hey, that's Grammie's old car! She was one of the lead stunt drivers on the old "Mad Max" movies.

The E39 is a wonderful car. It's the perfect size for comfort and driveability. I have 24+ mpg since I've bought my 530i Sport 5-speed. On the second mpg monitor I get over 23 mpg during my daily communte of 60+ miles.

The car is so quite and well built that I have riders comment on how quiet and smooth it is. I've been on four 5 hour drives the last couple of weeks and it was perfect. Never got tired of drivig it. The 3.0 has plenty of torque for all situations, so the 4.0 should be great.

I bought mine with 61k miles on it two years ago and I'm almost at 90k miles. No problems with it. Had to replace a broken front sway bar link, so I just replaced both front ones for about $40. The oil pan started seeping, so I'll replace it in the spring. It burns about 1 quart every 4000 miles which is great.

The E39 is a great blend of looks, comfort and sport. You'll enjoy it. Congrats.
