Lots of threads being closed by mods

Is it me or are there more threads lately that are getting closed by mods?

Four threads in the recent past needed to be closed according to mods...
Things tend to get heated up very quickly, insults fly...
I sure hope this isn't becoming a trend!

It will never cease to amaze me what evolves from an innocent thread (question) being posted. A fist fight on the internet.

Its the New Order. 1984.

Schumi 11-16-2009 03:21 AM

I've seen other forums where people fight about computer hardware... tv shows... video games..

..but only here do people get into fits of rage over snow tires and cuff links.

Yep. Lucky for me I tend to lose interest once a thread deviates from its topic.

No kiding, I mean it pretty obvious that you dont use cuff links on snow tires. What kind of snow tires have sleeves anyways?????

People are getting more and more frustrated these days. This will increase as things go downhill in life and the economy. One of their outlets are various forums on the internet...

Lot's more could have benefited from a Mercy Killing.

That's too bad. Danny Ocean is like the sniper of the southwest.

Perhaps a refresher read would help here - Forum rules and guidelines.

I didn't close any of the threads listed above, but I have closed "runaway" threads in the past. When a thread declines to name calling and internet bullying, it has run its course. The threads listed have clearly run their course - the posts became more and more off topic, and more and more name calling and ugliness ensued.

Sometimes closing a thread helps folks to clear their heads - ever gotten into an argument at a bar? Hopefully you have good friends who tell you, "take it easy - it's not worth getting into a fight over..." (Now one may argue that better friends will tell you, "I got your back. Swing away...)

So when a moderator closes a thread, it's like the same thing - we're trying to dispell the crowd before a mob fight breaks out.

That said, Thread closed.

Just kidding about the thread closed part...

2 of the 4 mentioned closed threads had clearly run their course and there was nothing more constructive to be said. When it's over, it's over........

widgeon13 11-16-2009 09:07 AM

Interesting. I closed the "cufflinks" thread after a complaint brought it to my attention and it was obvious that it was well into the quagmire.

I didn't close the other ones. If Z didn't close them, maybe our new moderators are more active? I didn't get the memo...
