Lexus GS300(AWD) vs. Infiniti M35X or G35X

I've been looking at used "upscale" sedans recently and I'm torn between a few makes/models. Based on test drives, research and wife's input (her primary driver), here's where I am:

'06 Lexus GS300(AWD): Great car, by far the quietest (interior sound) of the 3. Only drawback is that Consumer Reports gives year model poor marks. Fuel system apparently had a recall causing a big black dot. Everything else seems minor (engine, trans and stuff get good marks). BTW, I'm a Toyota guy, so I'm partial to the Lexus.

'06-'07 Infiniti M35X: Great car, but I was surprised at the exhaust noise you hear in the cabin. Its a performance sedan (competes with BMW 5 series), but really - does the exhaust need to be that sporty? Other than that, it has amazing positive feedback on CR with the only other downsided being relatively poor gas mileage (averages ~21MPG combined compared to the Lexus at ~26MPG).

'07-08 Infiniti G35X: Haven't had the opportunity to drive one; my wife isn't a fan & thinks its much smaller than the M35. I assume the G35 has similar exhaust sound in the interior.

All above are similar in price for comparable mileage on the vehicle.

Appreciate any feedback you guys have on these vehicles.

Thanks, Gordo

Side note: I drove an '07 Mercedes E - unimpressed and didn't think it compared to the others in any way.

The G will be noticeably smaller. They're both great cars, which do you like better? Really you can't go wrong either way.

I've driven a G35X; buy a 328iX. JMHO.

My only recommendation would be to get an 08 or later GS if you're gonna get one. That way you get the direct injection. 300+ HP and 21mpg around town/ 29 freeway.

I've been quite happy with my DD 07 GS350.

The only low points for me are the stupid drop down door required to open the trunk and fuel filler from inside the car, safety lock out that prevents you from doing anything significant with the Nav while in motion, and (biggest issue for me) super small trunk.

The trunk in the 08 actually has quite a bit of room; however, due to the design of the opening, nothing large can be put in it.

As for the trunk/gas release, it is now below the drop down door.

How's your mpg?

Wife's Vote

I think my wife has narrowed in, opinion (read my input) no longer counts - looks like the M35X is going to do it.

Thanks folks.

Your definition of roomy must differ from mine. My 540 had a much larger trunk.

I saw they moved those items for the 08 model year. The trunk release doesn't bother me as much now that I'm no longer a dad picking up kids from practice.

I'm getting around 21 in daily use. A bit over 25 on trips.
