I was thinking of getting a Mitsubishi Montero 4WD for my daughter
Any comments? Have any of you had a Montero? Are they good cars? I have always had Subarus for snow cars, but now my daughter has three kids of her own, and thinks her Forester is getting too little. She lives in Michigan, but wants me to find her a rust-free car from the southwest. She wants 4WD and room for three kid car seats. I saw a Montero and thought I'd check out a few..
Good car for young mom and kids??? ( and the husband, too?)

I did a little research on them a while back and came back with mixed results, enough so that I warned off my sister in law. They're also not very big for three car seats. Better similar models would be a 4Runner or Pathfinder.

Montero or Montero Sport?
I've had both - I think the Montero (full size, limited) was one of the best cars I've had in quite a while.

I'm looking at 2001 and newer, full size. maybe even with the third row seats.
budget $5000-7000.

The full size is a little underpowered - but they really are great cars. Sturdy - I put well over 100,000 in four years - just brakes and battery. Towed the boat - plenty of room. Ran like a top -

The full-size Montero has quite a bit of room. The one I drove was very nice, but reliability isn't a strong point for Mitsubishi. I wouldn't get a Montero Sport, they are fairly small for an SUV.
