Thanks for all your input. Fired several different sizes of Glock's and Sig's.
I decided on the Glock 17, 9MM. I was pretty accurate with it and it just felt good.

I have a G17 as well. I really like the way it feels. One of my friends has a Sig. It feels very awkward for me.

I have a Glock 23 in .40 Cal with night sights. Its juts like they used to say in the American Express commericals.....Don't leave home without it.......

I have come to love my G34 which is basically a 9mm G17 frame with a slightly longer slide/barrel for competition shooting. I just bought an Advantage Arms LE 17 .22 conversion kit for it which will allow cheap practice this winter.

I have installed a 13lb recoil spring, a lighter striker spring, a different trigger spring and I did the polish job on the trigger parts. Trigger pull measured in the middle of the trigger has gone from 5.5-6 lbs stock to just under 4 lbs with the mods. I tried a Ghost Rocket 3.5 connector, but re-installed the stock 3.5 Glock connector as it is slightly smoother. You're G17 comes with the Glock 5.5 connector.

Glocks are nice. I went with a Sig 229 only because it is what I used to carry for work.

I have so many extra mags and holsters, it only made sense. Plus, I am super familiar with the ergonomics and that is really what counts in a crisis situation.

I did something similar. After one range session, I went back an purchased all stock, unpolished parts and have been using them since. I like a crisp trigger pull, and I no longer had that. I really didn't like the 3.5 connector. It's all personal preference IMO.

The Ghost Rocket connector has a tab that you grind to fit to eliminate overtravel, but on my particular Glock I basically had nearly zero overtravel to start with and the Ghost connector for some reason "felt" grittier even though my trigger bar and the Ghost were polished like a mirror.

The difference between the Glock connectors (3.5, 5.5, 8.5) is in the ramp angle designed into them that the trigger rides against as it travels rearward and downward to release the sear. The "lighter" 3.5 connector lowers trigger pull weight but does so at by slightly increasing the distance the trigger must move to release the sear. I recently bought a 5.5 connector to try to see if I like, but have not installed it yet. When I first got the Glock, I hated what I felt was a long gritty stiff trigger pull, but after a thousand or so rounds I have gotten accustomed to it. While I am nowhere near as good with the Glock as I am with a Mark II .22 target pistol, I have vastly improved.

Hmmm...maybe I would like the 8.5 connector if it shortens the trigger pull even more. I've noticed that the thing I look for most in a handgun is a short, crisp trigger pull. When I am target-shooting the Glock, I will aim, pre-pull the trigger to the point that I feel some "weight", verify aim, then pull the trigger all the way back. I think the reason I like shooting my .38 Special so much is because cocking the hammer reduces the trigger pull to a few mm.

8.5 connector will greatly increase the force required once pre-travel is taken up to fire, but will also shorten the travel a bit.

I ultimately would want the best of both worlds... A light crisp trigger that only requires a hair of movement, but I am presently "satisfied" with the way my Glock trigger feels for IDPA type shooting. I can't wait until I start reloading using 147 g bullets instead of the snappy 115 factory loads I am currently practicing with. I have shot a magazine of custom 147 loads that a local IDPA uses and was shocked how much softer the felt recoil was. The difference was VERY noticable and will contribute to much faster quick shooting once I get set-up.
