Congrats Paul! Better have them knock those support columns out while they are at it.... as you will need a wider opening for when you get an airplane built.

The Amish/Mennonites here use gasoline engines to drive hydraulic pumps. All their woodworking machines have hydraulic motors instead of electric.

Are you using one of their heaters??
![]() I'm jealous Paul of course. If I had a workshop that big I could have posted hours and a steady clientele! Hope it all goes well and yes keep us posted. |

The comedy here is that, in my experience, there is nothing particularly nice about amish built furniture. Have seen some very nice cabinetry from a mennonite guy near Dover, De though. Congrats on the barn though! A crew of mennonite guys more or less built a shopping center near my home. They were employed by a major pole barn company. LOVE driving around the communities in Pa. It's just so refreshing to see the green rolling hills and dairy farms. WAAAY more pleasant than the chickens i'm surrounded by.

Jealous here, looks great! I'd recommend spray-foam insulation with the fireproofing additive.

Some more pics from yesterday and today: You'll notice the inside of the barn is still wood, the outside wrapped in metal. We did that for rigidity. They will frame in four windows on the back. On Harry's recommendation, I found a solid fir door, framed, at one of the local building supplies, in their "basement". $50.00. "Harry working your project?" "Yes, Sir". "Follow me". ![]() ![]() ![]()

i know pole barns here typically have a silver 'bubble' insulation to deal with condensation. not sure exactly how it works but back when we were exploring a pole barn this was a part of the proposals.
paul how far are you from here and how far is that from 'tractorfordchevydodgetruckville'?

Fire Systems is one DIY spray foam company. There should be other products and commercial services available out there.
If the divider walls are insulated as well, one bay could be heated to 90deg while the others stay at 40deg. I'd also recommend making sure the structural integrity is complete before finishing the inside. You might want an I-beam chain hoist later on, or to combind two doors into one wide one. Depends of usage of course. I also like the idea of notching in 1x6 or 1x8 boards from corner to corner to keep the walls square. |

You'll have the perfect set-up when that workshop is finished.
Congratulations!

Side door and three of the four rear windows are in...slow progress because of the holidays.
Front doors (sliders) will be build tomorrow. Snapper, you're welcome anytime. Thanks, John for the insulation tips. Thanks, Dottore...I also went and looked at mid-rise lifts last weekend ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Paul, I ordered my BendPak mid rise lift from these guys several years ago after doing an extensive search on price and features. BendPak MD-6XP 6,000-Lbs. Mid-Rise Portable Lift
The shipping is free. I got mine several years ago for about $400 less. I use mine about once per week on average from a clutch job on a 944 turbo to a brake job on my old Tacoma 4 x 4 pickup. It still works as new with zero repairs or service.
