Blister care...

Holy Schit I kicked my azz...did the 3-day breast cancer walk, 60 miles. Trained, broke in my shoes, swapped shoes...all the right things. But I got blistered up and just kept going. It's been 2 days and my feet are hugely swollen, oozing and I have a deer hunt at the end of the week. What can I do???

Let them air out... don't do anything to them until it is time to strap on your boots for the deer hunt.

When it's boot time, use a high quality blister product like compeed to cover the blisters. Then reinforce the compeed with 2-3 full wraps of the area with duct tape... yes, I am serious.

In your hunting boots wear a pair of good (i.e. not cotton) boot socks and preferably a wicking liner sock made of polypro.

I have two different methods for dealing with blisters.

When at home:

Day 1: Pop the sucker and let the fluid drane out. May require a band-aid or gauze to absorb the fluid.

Day 2: Cut the skin off the sucker. Depending on how deep it is, I may cover it with neosporin and a band-aid for a day, or I may just let it air out.

Day 3 - ?: Leave it uncovered to heal until it is healed. I've had bad blisters that I needed to cover for work, but I would uncover when I got home. For example when I started on my roofing odyssey, I had a huge blister in my hand from the roofing shovel (and I had a hole worn in my glove in the same spot that I failed to notice). I kept it covered for work but uncovered at home.

When on the trail: (Used to do a lot of backpacking.)

Pop the blister and use mole foam to protect the area by making a donut that fits around (not over) the blister. Repeat as necessary until back to civilization and "home" steps can be followed. Keep the area very clean and disinfected.

Cool...thanks!!! I'm in flip flops at work to move around; barefoot at the desk. Tag was hard to come by, so I REALLY need to go!

Holy crap! I hope you don't lose your feet. WTF.

Know when to say when next time.

I'd be freaking out a bit if my feet looked like that.

Don't go to the ER for something like that. If you go to the doctors, go to your doctor or to an "Eurgent Care" place.

(Please confirm docs) If it's only a sprain: use cold for a couple days to keep swelling down, then heat after that. Fluids and asprin/garlic to thin the blood.

Best to have a doc look at it. Cellulitis is nothing to fool around with, mom got it from just working in the garden. A neighbor also nearly lost his life from mersa following a surgery.

Problem is, he didn't suggest a joint injury of any kind. Only blisters.

Tobra will know what to do.

They said "You've got high blood pressure." On meds...but don't take them...sooo got a 15 minute tune up regarding that. Asked if I'd been a Marine, remarked on high tolerance for pain. Cleaned the wounds up, that was about it. Doc did Rika's test...didn't seem concerned. Remarked my feet were cold (they were hanging in mid air over a bed for 45 min). Looking down, I know now what Hillary sees
