Replaced a clothes dryer drive belt--PIA!!!

The belt broke last night so I picked up a new one and set about replacing it.

I've never done one before but what the heck. I found a DIY article on that Internet thingy and it looked pretty easy.

You have to remove the drum to get the new belt around it's "belly".

Then came trying to figure out how it goes around the pulleys. Mine was slightly different than the article but I finally hit on the right combination.

WOOHOO! It works again and Mama is happy. Total cost? $4.78.

That's all. Just thought I would share.

I have gotten very fast at ours. I had a belt replacement but I also have to lube the rear bearing every year when it starts to squeal like a banshee. Pop up the top. Pull off the front. Unscrew the bolts in the drum at the back. Lube & reinstall. The belt has to go over the motor pulley & the tension arm pulley. Now it is a 20 minute job.

I think it is time for a new dryer . . .

When I got seperated, my ex-wife took the washer and dryer, which she promptly stored at her parents house! This is 1998, so we're pre-Craigs list days...I found a Washer and Dryer pair for $40. After cleaning our the rat's nest (rat urine is nasty!), and getting 2 belts (another $35), I had a working washer and dryer. Except the dryer squeaked. Well, the bearing was totally shot. I ended up lining the bearing with a special teflon wrap, and ran that dryer for 2 years!

Yeah, I pulled that drum several times!

Dude, it's a 10min job tops... what are you taking the drum off for?????? just unpop the top, pull the front cover off and slip the belt on... hardest part is figuring out how to get it onto the roller where it is under tension.... only time drum needs to come off (depending on style of drier) is to get to the heating element....
