My assault spoon is finally complete
Took a few months and a few grand, but my AR build is finally complete.
http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ndianBetaC.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ombiegear2.jpg http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b3...stockpile2.jpg It's a 16.5" barreled 1:9 twist (chrome lined with M4 feed ramps) Bushmaster XM-15E2S with the following mods: *Chip McCormick sealed 3.5lb match grade trigger assembly. *Hogue rubber over molded free floated forearm and overmolded grip * Yankee Hill flash hider/comp/skull crusher * Wolff over strength recoil, extractor and mag release springs *Ambidextrous safety *Front and rear accuwedges *635nm red remote pressure activated laser * Walther PS-55 red dot sight or Trijicon tritium self luminous night sights *15 LED dual color tactical light with "skull crusher" bezel *Front sight post left and right rail mounting system *M7 Bayonet Magazines: *1 Beta C 100 rd drum magazine *15x 30 rd milspec magazines, all with Wolff extra strength mag springs *4x 20 rd milspec magazines For home defense scenarios i'm using the civvie version of 77gr OTMBT Mk262 Mod1 ammo as issued to US SPECOPS. The stuff i have is made by Doubletap. I also have a couple boxes of Federal LE 55 gr JHPBT rounds as issued to the NYPD SWAT team. For "zombie" type scenarios i have a stockpile of approx 1000 rds of M193 and M855. These things are expensive..... :) PS: I see my toe! ;) |
how long does it take to field strip it now?

Welcome back Snipe

Thanks Rick! :) |
Damn.... That red dot is mounted pretty high! I bet it won't be long until you order a flip up BUIS and ditch the carry handle. ;):D
|
That's the same base model as my current one. Still waiting on my next kit from Del-Ton to build onto my Spike's lower.

There is no way in hell i'd give up the factory iron A2 sights on an AR. They are too damn good, and i qualified expert too many times with them to ever live without them. :) At -25 meters i'm using my day/night green laser. At +25 yards i'm using the Trijicon A2 iron sights. The red dot is just a fashion statement. :) Honestly, if the S ever HTF i'd take it off to save weight and bulk. All the shooting i'd be doing in my locale is -50 stuff. What that hi-mount red dot would be great for is shooting with a gas mask on. Low mount sights or the factory iron sights are unusable with a standard GI gas mask on. LOL.... |
*Front sight post left and right rail mounting system
Where did you get that? I dont want to change my cover, but this looks like it would work great. |
Here you go amigo:
http://images.cabelas.com/is/image/c...?$main-Medium$ http://www.cabelas.com/p-0054140229151a.shtml I hate the "tactical" fore-ends, and really wanted to use the Hogue over molded free-floater, so the front sight dual rail mount fit the bill perfectly for me. I have my laser mounted to mine, the left side is just unused, though i do have a "tactical" light mount with a Nebo 14 LED combo light/laser, should i ever feel the desire to add a light to mine. It's really unnecessary with the green laser. It's so bright you can navigate even in a completely dark building just with the light of the laser. |
Some pix of my black beauty in different configurations:

Hella sweet in the flat-top mode!
|
What do you do with that? Firing range?

Thanks guys!

Nice...I like the Houge rubber forgrip set up...what does all that cost?
Does that drum mag work? Which brand did you get? I was thinking about one but they looked cheap and problematic...Ya/nay? How long does it take to load one? |
Where did you get the green laser? i like the red laser/flashlight combos, but geez, @ $500+??!
|
still want some numbers!
tell me you have NOT timed yourself... |

The forearm is free floated, so you have to remove the front sight/gas block assy and the existing barrel nut, which means you'll need an armorers tool too. That's another $30-40.00 The drum mag is a new style improved model Beta-C dual drum mag, and works absolutely flawlessly. The earlier design was tested by US troops in A-stan and failed miserably. This new one is the design they came up with based on the trials, and i must say they got it right this time. Fully loaded it holds 100rds, so it obviously adds quite a lot of heft to the rifle when inserted. The Beta C mag kit comes with the mag, a carrying pouch(hi quality GI style), 2 tubes of graphite powder, and a speed loading tool. It costs $295.00 retail, i got mine for $250.00. The Beta C mag can be left fully loaded indefinitely. With the loading tool it takes my 11yo nephew about 5 minutes to load. :D Quote:
The green day laser i got is made by "AIM" manufacturing, it was about $100.00. I find myself wishing i'd gotten the $300.00 laser max green universal laser instead. It's tiny and has a universal mount rail mount design, so i could use it on all my weapons, including my pistols. Oh well. You would not believe how much brighter a green laser is at night, and true to what you hear, they are plainly visible in daylight. |

I guess a competent typist could type that sentence in about five seconds, blindfolded and in the dark... |
Wow thats nice. I'd like to have an AR. I have also always wanted a Thompson 1927 A1 Delux with Drum Mag. maybe one of these days...I have too many irons in the fire right now.

I wouldnt take that bet, I bet he can do it or he woudlnt have made the statement. I know a retired marine who can do it so fast you wouldnt believe it ..and I guarentee you he can strip and reassemble an M16 in the dark. He is not someone I would tangle with I promise you that.

Even a detail strip of the bolt carrier assembly is pretty easy, The only part that would be difficult blind is removing the cotter pin that holds the firing pin in, simply because it is kind of small. Here is a 11 year old girl doing a detail strip and reassembly in about a minute. She is done with the part Snipe is talking about by the :05 mark: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/mVlRdYbD07A&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/mVlRdYbD07A&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> |

Yikes... I have friend that is already that fast with guns... His dad has a safe room full... not just a safe full of guns... So he is very familiar with a weapon and how to be extremely lethal with one.... He joined the Marines... I can't imagine how fast he will be once they get done with him....
|
We were timed in our battalion one time field stripping AK-47s. I was the fastest in the entire battalion, i think it took me under 10 seconds to dis and re-assemble it.
|
let's see your video - today
you know you wanna race the girl & your old self too... |

No such thing as a "retired Marine!" They remain a Marine until passing but do respond fairly well to "former Marine" if needed! I stand corrected. I wasnt sure exactly how to phrase it. I have a ton of respect for him. |
I am sure i could do it in 10 seconds or less, even now. I'll see if my girl wants to participate in my silliness and film it for your amusement.
|
You wussy! Your posting pics of you and a goth chick doing anything with a -16 on PPOT is going to happen when... well, when those monkeys take flight!
So there! :) |
No way in hell i'm posting any more girls pix here any time soon. The animals amongst us just cannot control themselves. LOL.

Here's a close up of the Walther red dot sight on my rifle. I know a few of the guys on Pelican are looking for optics...
http://www.pyramydair.com/images/acc...er_2300580.jpg Walther PS-55 I've had it to the range a few times, and it holds it's zero just fine (so far). The reticle is 5 MOA, so it's not a precision shooting tool, but it's mighty fast when used as an OEG at closer ranges (100 meters and in). I find this amusing since the turret drums offer 1/4 MOA click adjustments. Considering it's under $100.00, i'm pretty happy with it. |
thx - I like that thing
