You MADE me gamble...
The Gambler Who Blew $127 Million - WSJ.com
"During a year-long gambling binge at the Caesars Palace and Rio casinos in 2007, Terrance Watanabe managed to lose nearly $127 million. The run is believed to be one of the biggest losing streaks by an individual in Las Vegas history." "In a civil suit filed in Clark County District Court last month, Mr. Watanabe, 52 years old, says casino staff routinely plied him with liquor and pain medication as part of a systematic plan to keep him gambling." They never did this to me. Sheesh, I blew $200 at the poker table in an hour there last time out and I didn't get so much as a 'lude for my troubles. Clearly I'm doin' it wrong.

"liquor and pain medication?"
If I dropped that much I would expect identical twins. |

I had a good lesson on my 21st birthday weekend. Reno casinos took every dime I had. Haven't given a casino a nickel since.

What color he is shouldn't make any difference. Or else send this to PARF.

Gambling only works for folks that are math impaired. Go to Vegas, look around. Did they build that place just give money away? Nope, it is to take money from people that do not understand statistics.

There was a guy from Pennsylvania a few years ago with a similar lawsuit. They would send a helicopter to pick him up and kept him drunk to keep gambling. I think he actually won something. Don't know how much I agree, but if you were a bartender plying your know drunks/alcoholics and they plow into a tree on the way home....isn't there some responsibility on the part of the bartender?

I think you might be missing the big point. If a casino dispensed prescription pain meds without medical supervision and a prescription, they are going down. Huge.
If it's true, a $100 million settlement would be cheap.

Good point. But if the meds were prescribed by a "house doctor"????

Damn the bad luck. I usually lose all of my money before I can get the waitress to bring me a single beer. I guess if I had $127M to lose it would be a little different.

I was in a casino in Cherokee, NC on a Friday night once. There were cars from all the nearby states. Place was packed. I think I stayed about 10 min and went to the men's room. They were all set up for dropping off insulin needles and the like. I could see having a doctor in the house given all the senior citizens. In that 10 minutes I must have second hand smoked 4 packs.

When I got laid off due to the dot-bomb in mid 2001, I found myself working in a game room that sat between two huge bingo halls. Gambling isn't legal here if the winnings are money, so to get around it, they had electronic slot video games where the winnings were tickets and the tickets could be exchanged for gift certs to play bingo. (some good customers occasionally got cash from the owner in the back room). I'd never really witnessed gamblers in action before. It's definitely a sickness.
Most of our machines were .05 per point with a payout of $150 on the big win, and we had 2 machines that were double or .10 per point with a $300 payout. One of the good customers sat down at the .10 machine one day, must have spent 12 hours there. She put $1500 into the machine trying to win $300. I don't think she ever did win. I think the owner reimbursed her for some of her loosings. The thing is they start out thinking I'm going to win and be up, and that's always 1 game away. Then before they know it, they have to win to break even. Then they have to win so they don't lose too much money. It was really sad to watch those folks lose their money.

Last time I was in Vegas we spent some time in the high limit slot room at the Wynn. (I was NOT playing) Met a guy who was playing 4 machines at a time, $300/pull. I asked him how much he was playing. He laughed. His players card indicated he had put $970,000 in the slots THAT DAY. He may have been winning or losing, I didn't ask, but he had played nearly a million dollars in a day.
