CA sales tax question

Slight chance I may bring my 993 tranny to a shop in LA for repair, as I go there so often anyway and it would save having to ship it. As an AZ resident, would I have to pay CA sales tax on its repair if done in LA?

You don't have to pay, but the seller has to collect.

My attempt at humor. Seller collects from you and remits to state. He might choose to discount to you, but he still remits to state.

I think he has to ship it by common carrier with documentation to AZ to be exempt from CA tax. If you pick it up, tax is due to CA.

If he can ship it out of state by common carrier, he will not have to collect the king's wage.

If you carry it out of the door, he will be forced by law to collect sales tax.

Isn't it just tax on parts, not labor?

Have you not read any of the MotorMeister threads?

What BeyGon said. What does the shop say when you ask them re: sales tax for an out-of-state customer?

FWIW...far as I'm concerend, the best transaxle guy on the west coast works in Portland, OR. OR has no sales tax. Problem is, he's semi retired, doesn't do jobs for just anybody...plus, he's not cheap.

It's a G50, not a 915. And we found some stuff in there today that looks like a rebuild won't be necessary. Aside from having to round up some special tools, looks like we can handle this one at home.

As soon as they find some labor that is not just visiting from Mexico, they'll find a way to tax it.

Soon, they will tax you for work you do yourself, priced at Union rates.

And then they will check to see if you have the proper licenses, to do that work yourself. Welcome to the New World Order.
