Like, I don't know how to drive?

Man-o-shevitz, 30 miles from home with 4WD and chains and they've shut down the I5 North. CHP says it's too windy and icy over the Grapevine. Can't go the Old Ridge Route cause they're wise to that, so I'm stuck in the Comfort Suites with no change of chonies or socks and I've got to be in Hollywierd at 6 in the morning, not smelling like a goat farm.

Looks like I'm going to have to drop a few bucks at Sport Chalet for some clean clothes and I've got a bunch of WonTon soup in the car cause the Wife has the stomach flu and I wanted to get something to make her feel better, but that ain't gonna happen.

That's it, I'm not payin' no more F'in taxes. I'm supposed to have faith in them, but they don't think I can drive in a little bit of inclement weather?

Thanks for listening, just wanted to rant a little. I guess I should just drive a damn Hyundai and try and put chains on the back wheels like all the others.

Yeah I have that bookmarked, I checked it at the restaurant at McBean Pkwy and by the time I got to Hwy 126 (about 5 miles) they had closed it. Damn that WonTon soup! I'm afraid to open the fortune cookie, might be more bad news,

Well, here I am at 5:30 in the morning checking traffic conditions...but the Grapevine is still closed. Even going the super long way by Willow Springs is closed over by Tehachapi. Guess I have the day off to play hooky.

Yeah, it was best I stayed down here. Too much to do today to play hooky and the commute to work was a lot quicker. I drive the Grapevine everyday and I've seen it covered in snow, me creeping along at 45mph in 4WD and someone in a Corolla pases by doing 70. Usually 2 miles later they'll be into a guardrail wondering what the hell happened.

Too much work for me to not work today, but I have no reasonable options to get into Bakersfield today. Who would have thought I'd have a snow day, here in Southern California? Next time you need a place to stay in the L.A. area, let me know--I'm in the Valley.

Um, doesn't the government of the State of California ALWAYS know what is best for you?

that sucks!!! but craigster..seriously. some rain in the the bay area will cripple traffic until the public has a few days to recalibrate their driving skills. californians are not the best adverse weather drivers. i have a good friend that has a home in Frasier Park. i have been stuck up there. i am going to make the same trek in several weeks. i hope the sun is out. i have to meet friend in Frasier Park.

I suspect that closer to the truth, if some nimrod runs up there and ends up off of the road or dead or whatever other serious calamity can befall a person, then the state has to spend a ton of money to get the rescue folks to go get said idiot.

The problem is that "the state" now seems to be responsible for everything (since personal responsibility is mostly a story passed down from old folks these days). So it's like living with your parents, as long as you're forcing them to be responsible for you, they are allowed to impose rules.
