Leasing Space To A Microwave Tower - Health And Financial Issues?
A cellphone company is seeking to place a wireless tower on the main building of my kids' school. It would be income to the school, which is always nice.
I am trying to figure out 1. Is there good data on the health effects or lack of same, from having a microwave tower on one's property? 2. What is the going rate for leasing a tower location? They are offering $12K/year. Thanks for any thoughts or pointers.

on a serious note...some verizon lady, (sounded very hot on the phone) wanted me to give her a tour of my jobsite valley. they are gonna install a cell site so folks going thru the new devil's slide tunnel can talk (with handsfree of course) while going underground.
i never got the rate...but the landowner had a chubby, so i assume it is decent money. and she was not that hot.

Rates may vary by state but my LL gets $2500.00 a month for each tower (two total) on the lot here. He said it's better than renting to tennants. The checks are allways on time and he doesn't even have to go to the bank. automatic deposit. They also paid about $20,000.00 up front for the install.

I would not want a high-power uwave relay near my kids, if that is what it is.
Scientific studies are varied on the health effects, but why take the risk? |

My guess is your kids will see more RF energy from their cell-phones than from the tower.
All the antennas will have had the energy profile mapped (far-field and near-field). You could get that info if it makes you feel better/helps assess. Also, the higher up the antenna the better (less exposure potential).

I would not. History has shown that we are very quick to embrace technology that later is shown to be harmful. I don't know the exact science. What I have read is very much a mixed bag and not yet 100% confirmed for my comfort. These are your children here. $12,000 is a pittance if the antenna resulted in health issues.

yes, I'd also have them use earphones/mic with the cell phones - another rad. source with unclear health effects.
If you're 75 years old, then don't worry about it - if you are going thru cell division... |

Too bad I couldn't have predicted the cell phone market 20 years ago. I would have went around with a plat map and a topo map and bought up all the high points around the valley, sat back, and waited for the money to roll it.
$2500 a month huh. 4-5 of those on some of your property and you're set. "What do you do for a living?" ".. nothing"
