Am I asking too much of this Craigslist seller?

Found a nearly new Verizon Voyager cell phone on Craigslist for a reasonable price, but it was 30-40 minutes away. A friend just happened to be going near the location and was kind enough to pick up the phone for me. When he gave it to me I noticed that it was missing half of the cover. I called the seller and asked it she knew where it could be. She said she'd look around.

This morning I received an e-mail saying she had the cover and had found it outside. My friend had dropped it. I replied asking if she would put it in a number 10 envelope and mail it to me - two stamps should cover it.

The response was: "I am sorry your friend dropped a part of your purchase outside but right now and this month at work I’m way too slammed to drive to the post office and mail this out to you."

I responded suggesting just an envelope, two stamps, and any mail drop would have it to me by the next day. That was early this morning and I've received no reply.

Not a big deal as I can order the same cover from Verizon for $5 delivered... just sort of shocked at her lack of willingness to help. I think in the unlikely event that the cover does show up I'm going to send her a $20 Starbucks gift card as positive reinforcement for being human.

I think that you should have sent her a self-addressed envelope. --make it easy for her to do you the favor. After all, if it's so easy to do...

I would do that for you in a heartbeat. What's her problem? What ever happened to doing someone a favor?

I'm not even telling him. He'd be on his way in a heartbeat as he's that kind of person - not to mention that he'd be beating himself up over it for quite some time.

It's really the principle at this point, but I do like the SASE solution as the post office could use the business.
