I don't get it.....

So I'm at my neighbours last night for Xmas drinks, and she's excited as hell because she was out clubbing the previous night with Lady Gaga and Paris Hilton (both of whom are in town at the moment)!

All night she kept passing her digital camera around showing everyone pictures of herself and these two ridiculous women—all teeth and hair—and expected us to be impressed.

WTF is this all about?

Are these women important?

And if they are, and you happen to be with them, does that make you important?

Who are these people?

The kind of ppl that still watch MTV. The kind of people in my age group that I refuse to associate with...

Porsche-O-Phile 12-11-2009 10:48 PM

Ever read Milan Kundera's "Immortality"?

That'll explain it a lot.

Gogar 12-12-2009 12:27 AM

What if it was Steve McQueen and Betty Grable? Same thing.

HHI944 12-12-2009 01:45 AM

Isn't Lady Gaga actually a man?

s_morrison57 12-12-2009 01:45 AM

What's a Lady Gaga? I don't see the hype over Paris, to me she's a mutt.

+1, If I want to see a drug-addicted skank that will blow anyone for a little attention, I could just go to one the many trailer parks and probably find hordes of them.

Many Americans have such boring, pedestrian, unrealized lives that they invest themselves in celebrity. Witness all those poor souls right here on OT whose lives are shattered by Tiger Woods fooling around.

mattdavis11 12-12-2009 05:20 AM

Say you hung out with Michael Shumacher and Kimi Raikkonen one night, I'd wager that you couldn't post up pictures fast enough, send all your buddies emails, etc...

As Gogar mentioned, same thing.

The only difference is that those guys possess some discernible skills and talents

Tobra 12-12-2009 05:28 AM

I have no doubt the women mentioned have some talent, you just have been unable to discern what it is.

Paris has talent. I guess you haven't seen her video.

gprsh924 12-12-2009 06:23 AM

I've seen better

lm6y 12-12-2009 07:24 AM

If someone on this board had a chance to hang with a Superstar Rock Band, the pics would be all over the place. You know, someone huge, like Big Head Todd and the Monsters. I heard the keyboard player parties like an ANIMAL!

scottmandue 12-12-2009 07:43 AM

Yeah but race car drivers and rock stars are famous (as has been said) because they have a skill... and they have worked hard at developing their skills...

Whereas Paris and Lady whoever are famous for being famous, not that I fault them for that... if someone wanted to pay me mega bucks to watch me trim my toenails I would take the money.

I am a native Los Angeleno and had heard more than my share of "I partied with blah blah" or "I am related to blah blah".

In Kauai I was trying to enjoy the peace and beauty of Paradise (and a Mai Tai) at a bar with a view when some goof ball started spouting loud enough for the whole bar to hear about his exploits with various rock stars (think the stones were mentioned) all I could think was "how pathetic that you see yourself as having no redeeming value"

Scuba Steve 12-12-2009 07:54 AM

My only brush with fame has been with David Robinson when both he and I parked near eachother and were exiting our cars. He was in a Cayenne, me in the 924S and I commented on his car. Apparently he's not much of a car guy. Or he thought the 924S was an older RX-7 :(

So do these girls, when they are on their back with their legs open...

creaturecat 12-12-2009 08:10 AM

Trixie ( Paula Malcomson), from Deadwood is coming to our house for lunch tomorrow.
Friend of the little woman. I wish i was invited. Hen party.
There, I "name dropped". Due to my boring, pedestrian, unrealized life.
Did i mention my day spent with Omar Sharif?. Another boring, pedestrian, unrealized life kind-of-day, yes it was.

Wilywilly 12-12-2009 10:02 AM

I spent over 25 years working in the hotel industry and met several celebrities. The only stories that I tell was when Lloyd Bridges asked me where he could rent some Scuba equipment and when I made Sonny B**o return some Jewlery that he charged to his room that he bought at a store concession for a 19 year old Bimbo he was traveling with and wanted me to direct bill his charges. The discussion in the lobby got pretty heated.

Hugh R 12-12-2009 10:41 AM

"US" Magazine should be called "Them". It's not about "Us", it's about "Them", too many people don't understand that.

Hey did I mention that the bass guitarist for "Foreigner" lives on my street and is coming to our progressive holiday street party tonight! Actually, I think he is on tour and his wife is coming. But Hey! it's the wife of a musician!!!

pwd72s 12-12-2009 10:47 AM

Okay...I'll drop a name. I know Ron Madaio!

Hugh R 12-12-2009 11:03 AM

Who?

pwd72s 12-12-2009 11:05 AM

That's what I'd say if you name dropped the folks you work with, Hugh...;)

Por_sha911 12-12-2009 03:48 PM

Its her 15 minutes of fame. People who have no self-worth need to have more stuff than everyone, be seen at the "in" places, or know celebrities. If they were in PPOT, then every other post is a picture of them. Narcissists. Kind of like a recent Nobel award winner who's speech had "I" all over the place.

DanielDudley 12-12-2009 04:03 PM

Is it too hard to be happy for someone else's happiness ? If they are the ones who are all effed up, how is it that you got stuck with the attitude ?

I'm kind of glad for your friend. Personally, when the young lady at the bakery smiles and is nice to me, it is the nicest part of my day. Makes me wish I had had a daughter.

I realize that it seems like life has been handed to some people, but they still have to handle it. Your being irritated doesn't speak about them, in any case. It is more about you. They didn't come here to spoil your good time.

You are the light of the world. Now smile, dammit.

Dude. I am famous, I'm just soooooooooooooo "underground" that even I don't know who I am.

Jeff Pilson's wife?

Cool.

M.D. Holloway 12-12-2009 05:35 PM

Wow! She is so cool. I hope I get a chance to sit near her table in the cafateria! When does she have study hall so I can walk by her room and check her out!

Lady Gaga actually does have some talent. She is from NYC and is a trained singer. Not my style but you can't argue with revenue. She sells records, draws crowds, does what an entertainer is supposed to do.

Paris...she doesn't even suck head very well and there are better looking girls here waiting table at Applebies.

I'd love to hang out with Big Head Todd and the Monsters but what are the chances? Heck, Name Brand Superstars like that just don't waste time on BBS's like this. (or DO they?) ;)

Well, I used to fly the plane for several of the big names, as big as they get in those days. The "fringe benefits" are substancial.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1260709599.jpg

Some of them will do almost anything (legally that is) to see the plane where "the band" flies in... and we are glad to help the cute ones!

s_morrison57 12-13-2009 04:17 AM

Who's the fat chick in the cockpit, I don't remember ever seeing her, what was the fringe benifit, joining the mile high club?

Joeaksa 12-13-2009 04:44 AM

A. She is not fat

B. No mile high action here, it was in the hotel later

This is not a small airplane, its a four engine transport catagory bird. You do not just jump in it and go flying to get lucky.

Have some other photos of her but cannot post them here. She had some fat but only in the right places!

Probably a reason. Not that i care.

Scuba Steve 12-13-2009 09:24 AM

Who's that in the pic? I don't know '80s music or movies too well.
