Avatar?
Anyone see it yet?
I love sci-fi, is it worth the time? |
My hip young friends say it is for kids. I don't know, but I am passing it on.
|
Isn't it really called Dancing with Smurfs?
|
I'll probably go see it in a few weeks.
|
Absolutly worth the time ( almost 3 hrs). Great sci-fi. I saw it in 3d and loved it. Very much like dancing with wolves, but the smurfs are 10 feet tall. The
'green/native american" comparisons get to be a bit much but it still is a must see on the big screen. |
Eh. James Cameron's last good movie was The Terminator.
|
I plan on seeing it during Christmas/ New Years time off. Can't wait! Our news paper critic from the San Jose Mercury News (who hates everything) gave it a 3.5 star rating. My 11 year old daughter and wife are looking forward to it also.
|
I saw that it's gonna be in 3D at IMAX. Wow. Probably won't make that drive, though. Big local screen will be enough for me. Wouldn't think of waiting for it on DVD.
I trust James Cameron with my movie-going dollar... I've never seen anything he's done that wasn't rock solid... the dude goes the extra mile and then some. Always has well-developed characters and a story with heart, too. |
It's supposed to blow your socks off!
I'll know in 2 days time if that's the truth. The trailers and "snip-its" I've seen on the late night talk shows look incredible. Will definitely do the 3D thing, although some of the showings are non-3D. Report back in a couple days. I've betting it dead nuts *****in'. |
I wil have to find the nearest IMAX.
|
The 3D is very good at getting you into the enviroment of the Pandora world. This movie is such eye candy that it is worth that alone. The sci-fi story is also very good. One reveiwer I read just did not get it and should stick with reviewing the standard Hollywood schlock.
|
I would like to see it for the effects...
Storyline sounds like the same old rehash... |
Steve and I saw this last night. The story line is decent, a little rehashed but decent. The visuals in this movie are absolutely stunning (saw it in 3D). Worth the price of admission all by itself. It's one of those movies that you find your eyes scanning the screen and trying to take all of it in. Probably could watch it ten times just for the scenery. Anybody scuba drive? You remember the first time you got dropped off over a very healthy tropical reef and you tried to see EVERTHING? The movie feels like that.
The native speech is very interesting. I swear that I am hearing a real language. It has the cadence and patterns that make it completely believable. Like they actually used a rare but genuine language for the movie (native american for example). This story sets itself up very nicely for a sequel. Imagine that the mining company decides they need to take a second run at the planet. Only instead of combining the human dna with the humanoids, they pick one of the particularly violent predators on the planet... This is probably not a good movie for young kids. The violent scenes are startlingly real and there is one scene of surprising sensuality. It's also about two and a half hours long. The "Green" messages in the movie are very strong. Works for me, but it might really annoy other people. Personally, I don't get too wrapped up in the so called messages of movies. I just enjoy them. This movie? Enjoyed it greatly. Probably see it a second time on the big screen. angela |
the resource "unobtanium" that is no longer available on earth would seem to original scripts.
|
never let a good story get in the way of special effects...
|
I just saw it in 3D. First 3D movie I have ever seen. They had the reels messed up for the first half so the 3D was all messed up and not impressive at all until someone figured out to turn their glasses upside down. They got it sorted out for the second half and all I can say it: GO SEE THIS MOVIE IN 3D. It was absolutely awesome. Best movie I will see for a looong time.

BTW, you're describing "Gone with the Wind," not "Titanic." :) Wait... I think "GWTW" was longer than 4 hours. |
The only significant difference between GWTW and Titanic was that one took place on a boat, and the other on dry land. ;)
|
L O L ...nah... huge difference between Rose and Scarlett... Scarlett was the original high maintenance psycho woman if you ask me... Rose was a total sweetheart.
Have you seen both films? |
