can't listen to Sirius on new laptop....why ?

Last weekend I purchased a Toshiba laptop with Windows 7 operating system. Love the machine and the OS. The other day I decided to log into my Sirius account and listen to some tunes but it won't play on this laptop. When I use my old laptop with Windows XP I have no problems so it's not a problem with Sirius. Now when I watch a You tube video or similiar it works just fine. Any idea what's wrong ? Just for clarification it allows me to log into Sirius and I can pick from any of the menu options. I can get to the final pick of music but it doesn't play.

If it's like the sirius account that came free with my Mustang, you need to pay extra to sirius for every unit that receives them.

I let the free subscription in my car expire...buying an ipod & downloading all my CD's made more sense, since the car has an ipod dock.

I don't believe that is the case when listening online. For instance I listened online on my old home laptop and I also listen at work.....same account. And this is an account I have been paying for the last 2 years. Thanks anyway.

Bump as I still need an answer. I sent Sirius an email asking for help. They responded that there is no known issues with my account and they tried logging in with my account and it works on their end. They suggested I " turn off cookies " to see if that helps. So how do I turn off cookies with Windows 7 ? Any chance my Norton security is not allowing the Sirius to play ?

Sirius online launches a player - windows media player I believe (PC only).

You have to install a plug-in to get the player to launch. This is normally a pop-up.

Make sure you don't have any pop-ups being blocked - look at top of window to see if there are any alerts or notifications.

To remove cookies in Firefox - go to Tools>Options>Privacy>Remove individual cookies>remove all cookies. Not sure about IE because I see no reason to use it.

Figured it out.

I set up a temp sirius online account.

This is for Win 7 and Firefox.

If you don't have it, install Mozilla Firefox.
Firefox Browser | Free ways to customize your Internet

Open Firefox and go to Tools>Add-ons>Get Add-ons>Search
Download and install Playlink 1.26.9

Restart Firefox

Go to Sirius, launch media player, login and all should be well.

Sirius media player is looking for Windows Media Player 11. You have WMP 12 which is what is causing the issue.

Playlink Add-on solves this issue by allowing Firefox to play nice with most requests for media players.

If you have already started trying other solutions with Firefox, delete all cookies after installing Playlink and then login to Sirius again.

These cool Add-ons are the main reason I use FF.

Thanks gr8--I was having the same problem on my Mac. I downloaded Firefox and the Windows media player for Mac, and all is good. Buckterrier, try this and you should be in luck. It wasn't working thru Safari. I'm on Snow Leopard.

When I log into Sirius and choose music to play I get a pop-up stating additional plug ins are needed to display all data on the page. I downloaded the suggested plug in but still doesn't work. Very frustrating.

GR8 I am using Firefox as my browser. I did as you suggested and it looks like all installed correctly. I restarted and tried again with Sirius but still doesn't work. Should I do a search for Windows media player 11 and download that ?

Not sure why it isn't working, I'm listening to Bing Crosby sing Christmas tunes right now.

No need for media player 11.

Did you wipe the cookies?

The plug-in Sirius asks you to download is the wrong one. Playlink replaces the requested add-on..

If you followed my instructions and the pop-up keeps asking you to download an add-on then something is not right.

Uninstall Playlink.
Wipe cookies.
Close and reopen firefox.
Search and redownload Playlink
Close and restart firefox.
Wipe cookies again.
Open Sirius and click on Media Player.

The 'additional add-on required to display all info on this page' should be gone and all
should work.

Let me know

I just tried using Internet Explorer to sign in to my Sirius account and everything worked fine and the Sirius plays as expected. Is this a clue ?

Yes it is a Firefox Sirius Media Player issue.

To get it working on Firefox.

1. Forget everything I said above. I just set it up on a different Win 7 computer and found another way.

2. Open Sirius and login.
3. Click on the link that says an addon needs to be installed on this page.
4. Try to install add-on for Media Player 11. It will fail.
5. Click link for manual install of add-on.
6. Manually install the add-on and follow all instructions.
7. Restart Firefox and log onto Sirius again.
8. You will get the add-on needs to be installed window again.
9. Try to install it again and it will fail. Click Finish anyway after it fails.
10. Delete all cookies, close and restart firefox.
11. Firefox should now play Sirius.

Worked for me on both computers.

GR8 you must have the magic touch because I can't get it to work. I wrote down each step you outlined and followed them to the letter still doesn't work. After doing everything you outlined I still get the Sirius pop up window stating additional plug ins are needed. WTF .

Try a combination of manually installing plug-in for WMP and the Playlink add-on. Then open Sirius player, try to install missing plug-in, let it fail, click Finish. Close and restart FF. Delete all cookies. Close and restart FF. Login to Sirius.

If your password is not deleted when you login to Sirius, then you are not actually deleting cookies.

Each time I have deleted cookies ALL my saved passwords/logins were gone so I am deleting them. For now I have given up. I'll launch Sirius on Explorer and surf the net on Firefox. Thanks for your help it is appreciated.
