Shipping Engine - Cost?
I've bought an engine for the Vanagon from a place in FL and am looking for shipping to OR. 400 lbs, crated. The "from" address is a business w/ forklift. The "to" address is residential and will need a liftgate.
I've found a quote of $350 total cost. You guys think that is in the ballpark? FYI for Vanagon owners, it is a Ford Zetec and the zero-mile crated engine from Ford Racing (longblock with most of the accessories) costs $950.

I think Byron knows some shipping people.
In California it's easier to use the 2.2 Subaru in the Vanagon. I just got mine smogged last week. ![]() |

Nice looking install.
We're not so restricted for engine choice here in OR. If I ever move back to CA, I'll sell the Westy.

That is a great conversion. My brother-in-law just did it. Huge upgrade.
You should be able to get a price on-line. 48x48 pallet. About 400 lbs. |

Yes, $350 is low I think. I would take it.

That is too cheap...
I think you really should ask some specifics about the shipper. If they pan out as legitimate make sure they crate the ever-luving'dog-snot out of that motor because at $350 trans continental, I guarantee it will have stuff stacked on top of it during transport. Even with my substantial freight discount, I normally pay about $400 just to get a similar weight engine to Colorado, business to business. $350 Florida to Oregon with the drop at a residence is dirt cheap. angela

We've shipped pallets with our LCL providers (Yellow, ABF, etc) for $250-300 per pallet from MA to CA depending on freight class, however that is without lift gate service.

The shipping quote was via these guys
Freightz :: Instant Rate Quote It was the first one I tried. I will find out who the shipper actually is. The seller is these guys I will check how the engine is crated, it comes from Ford Racing so my guess is it is crated well - but verify > guess

Well, this is weird.
I arranged for a carrier to pickup the engine and ship it to me for $351 door to door plus $35 insurance. Then the seller, a Ford dealer, called me and said they had messed up, their shipping department had already shipped the engine to me using their carrier. I had previously told them not to use their carrier because the cost was to be $523. My engine is on a truck somewhere, headed for me (I just checked the online tracking info), via their carrier. The dealer was apologetic, acknowledged they had been instructed to hold the engine for pickup and had not been not authorized to ship the engine, and asked if I would please still pay part of the shipping cost. So, I'm paying $300. After the engine gets here.
