Schumi to drive for mercedes ....
Schumi-Mercedes deal nearly done and dusted?
Sunday 13th December 2009 If reports are to be believed, then Michael Schumacher and Mercedes GP fans are set to receive an early Christmas present this week. Schumacher has been linked with a return to Formula One since early November when Mercedes decided to buy the majority stake in Brawn GP. The German carmaker has promised to announce Nico Rosberg's team-mate before Christmas and it looks like they will be true to their word. German daily Bild claims the deal between seven-times Schumacher and Mercedes is almost signed and sealed and it will be announced in the next week. The paper reports that "the contract is ready to be signed" and that Schumacher has verbally agreed to the deal. It also adds that the 40-year-old will sign a one-year contract worth in the region of €7 million. Schumacher and his spokesperson refused to comment about the report while Mercedes dished out the "there is always speculation as long as one seat in our team is not taken" comment. Although the German signed a new three-year consultancy deal with Ferrari in September, the Italian outfit is unlikely to prevent him from joining Mercedes. |

It finally happened, He is coming back:
Schumacher agrees to drive for Mercedes - USATODAY.com Schumacher agrees to drive for Mercedes Posted 1h 46m ago | Comment | Recommend E-mail | Save | Print | FRANKFURT (AP) — Formula One great Michael Schumacher reportedly agreed to come out of retirement to drive for Mercedes in 2010. German newspaper Bild said on Wednesday the seven-time champion, who retired in 2006, signed a one-year contract at the team's offices in Brackley, England, on Tuesday. Schumacher will reportedly earn euro7 million ($10 million). Schumacher, who won five championships for Ferrari, has been heavily linked with a move to the former Brawn GP team, which won last year's drivers' and constructors' titles. Schumacher would join Nico Rosberg to form an all-German lineup after 2009 champion Jenson Button left for McLaren and Rubens Barrichello joined Williams. The 40-year-old Schumacher attempted a temporary comeback in August to replace injured Ferrari driver Felipe Massa but a serious neck injury sustained in a motorcycle accident kept him from driving then. Schumacher, who won his two earliest world titles at Benetton, will also be reunited with team principal Ross Brawn, who was part of each of Schumacher's championships. Schumacher is F1's most successful driver with 91 race wins in a 16-year career. He had been working as an adviser to Ferrari since his retirement, although the Italians said he was free to return. The news will spark major interest in motor racing's premier series with 2008 champion Lewis Hamilton ready to measure himself against Schumacher, who will face familiar foe Fernando Alonso in his old Ferrari car. "It's a human interest story of someone who is 40 years old coming back to race ... it would be amazing," Mercedes chief executive told the Associated Press last week. "Can someone (win the championship) at that age? Absolutely.

It's funny, I've got mixed feelings in spite of being a Schumacher fan. Maybe it comes with age and a family, but it seems that too often in the past great drivers came back or stretched their careers one season too long. Mark Donohue and Ayrton Senna come to mind. Other greats came back only to lose their luster, like Alain Prost.
That being said, Niki Lauda came back successfully how many times? I hope that Schumacher does well, Kicks-butt while winning an 8th championship and his 100th GP.

Schumacher will be the target of everyone on the grid with something to prove.

Mixed feelings here too. My favorite all time driver, driving for my most despised team.
Oh well, at least we finally have someone who won't pull over when hambone tries to push his way past, using intimidation and willingness to crash as a poor substitute for talent. i predict schumi will put hambone in the weeds in the first race and that should put a stop to him. |

And he's not driving for McLaren, he's driving for Mercedes, which is the former Brawn.
