What were we talking about again?

GH85Carrera 01-13-2010 04:56 AM

I would write up a quick letter with the facts you posted here. Put a link to this post in the letter. Mail it to the manufacturer, reseller and repair facility and any other place that might be involved. I would ask for a refund of the repair charges. The worst that can happen is they ignore you.

Jeremy, I would go back and talk to them about it. Write out all your findings and take the wrong relay back and show them. And going up in current rating will not hurt that particular component. But they went down in rating. Only a matter of time before it failed. The entire circuit works together and if one item is changed with incorrect ratings, it can have a cascading effect.

I doubt you'll get back any cash but it'll show them the guy screwed up.

However, beware. He may be operating within specifications. There may have been an "update" of some kind that makes the relay he installed "ok" to use. But I doubt it.

Nice work and congrats!SmileWavy

There are a few revisions of that board; maybe he was following specs for a newer revision of the board.

But I doubt it. Even so, he should know enough to look at it (and look at the month/year stamp on it) to find out what revision of the board it is.

Thanks!

I expect that the new relay is fine. It has a 24vdc coil. 12 vdc isn't going to actuate it.

Carry on...

Mmmmmm that's good crema for a superauto.

That's simply not true. Even for a 911, it's not true.

My coffee machine was under $30 i think.

Hehehe that's the spirit!

The rebuild on my 914/6 engine was $6K, only because I bought a 2.4l crank and rods, replaced the pistons and cylinders with 2.7l RS spec units, S cams, piston squirters, heads ported for increased flow and had someone else do the rebuild. If I had simply has the 2.2l P&Cs & rings replaced and everthing else refreshed, it would have been $2K.

Seriously...$850 for the labor for the rebuild. It was why I opted to have someone else do it.
