You guys have no idea how much fun it is to get a handgun permit here in NYC.

They treat you like the criminal for wanting a firearm.

If more New Yorkers were packing heat the bad guys would think twice,

Let's not forget Bernie Goetz, he should have been given the key to the city!

I'll keep you posted on how long the process takes. 1 month down, 6-12 months to go!

LOL, i guess i didnt' get banned from that aforementioned forum afterall. I just posted there. LOL....

Still very cliquey though. ;)

We're all pulling for you NY65912!

I have scored so many scorching deals via our local gun bbs. Less than an hour ago, I met up with a guy from there in the local Costco parking lot and paid $150 for 500 rds. of 155gr. JHP .40 cal. ammo and a set of NIB RCBS .40 cal. dies. Love the Internet and love AZ.

Seeing that you are getting your S&W 4006 back how about S&W Forum ? I love my 4006 it's built like a tank and shoots great. Minimal maint. needed and will probably last forever. I don't carry so not concerned about the weight. I'm not a plastic gun guy I guess I'm old school.

Yeah I really like the 4006. Mine is an early one. When I was looking for a holster I contacted Kramer leather in Washington State. They were very small then, 1991 or so. They didn't have a pattern yet so I sent him the gun and made me a scabbard. I still have some ammo.
I think it's a great idea for a firearm forum here. I mean if you can have a forum to rip each other why not a firearm forum?

Thanks everyone for the links some great reading.

I had a 6906/5903 hybrid for over a decade that i really liked. I actually regret selling it now that it's gone.

3rd Generation S&W autos are very solid designs, i've had 4 of them, but the factory trigger pulls suck. Tons of creep. A good smoothing over by a competent smith makes them capable of much greater precision.

This was mine:

I'm also on the S&W Forum...

If U have a NIB Registered Magnum, a NIB Mdl 16, a NIB 2nd Mdl 44 TGT and a boxed 2nd Mdl SS wt rare 8" B you got it made over there.

Otherwise they are friendly and helpfull.

Boy isn't that the truth. Although at the time it seems the right thing to do and in at least in mine case it was. But dang. I think the one I'd like to have back is a german PPK, .32ACP. Not because it was the best or in the best condition but I wonder if they are readily available now. And or course it was a gorgeous little piston.

If you have 3 NIB pistols you are doing it wrong. Open the damn box and go shooting.

targa911S 12-30-2009 02:10 PM

I agree. Why keep them perfect so your kids can sell them for next to nothing after yer dead. Enjoy them for chrissake.

Gun forums I used to hang out at:
glocktalk
firingline
targettalk
pistolsmith
smithwessonforum
thehighroad

pistolsmith and targetalk were the least "tactical". At the time, I haven't visited any of these in a while.

Lets see now pull the trigger on a NIB pistola (singular) that is worth about 10K and lose 3K to 4K because you pull the trigger....UMMMM no I don't think so....

One could get a nice used mdl 27 for a few hundred and get the same bang...which I have done...

I have shooters and I have safe queens...

BTW 84 Carrera has signed up for the S&W Forum...

Like sniper, PPOT is my new gun forum. I've been on too many dedicated gun forums to even remember them all. IMHO, not a single one of them is worth the effort anymore. Advice ranges from simply stupid to darn right dangerous, and far too much weight is given to the most tenured members, with post count equaling credibility.

Many of today's most respected gun writers rue the veritable cesspool of misinformation the firearms forums have become. Notables such as Ross Seyfreid, Dave Scovil, Mike Venturino, Brian Pearce, Sheriff Jim Wilson, John Barsness, and many others have mentioned time and time again in their writings just how bad it has gotten. I fully agree. But, then again, car tech forums have pretty much gone the same way, with many knowledgeable early contributors having long since bailed. They got tired of being drowned out by the bombastic b.s.

I only joined "the high road" when I was looking for parts for a rare old .22... Alas all those guys were looking for the same thing....

azasadny 12-31-2009 06:26 AM

I have found several gun/ammo forums that have really helped me in my hobby/sport. I took up reloading last year and have purchased several guns and I research each only pretty thoroughly.

Bill Douglas 12-31-2009 06:55 PM

Yes, thanks to this forum and the excellent information, I've got back into guns. AND into handguns - lots of fun. Particuarly thanks to Sniper, Rick and to Todd.
