Police chase ends with a boot to the head...

Yikes, the cops really need to understand that they are on video most of the time these days....

http://www.myfoxla.com/dpp/news/local/LIVE_VIDEO_Car_Chase_in_Baldwin_Park_20090513

Embedded video is not working, so I included the link.

I have a feeling this cop may be sitting at a desk in the near future. I think the head kick was unnecessary, given the footage.

The guy leads them on a high speed chase, crashes into a car, then a foot chase. I don't have a problem with him getting a boot or three. Or let the person who's car he crashed into take a few free shots.

I really don't have a problem with excessive force when needed. The footage shows that the guy clearly is spread out on the ground a few seconds before the cop reaches him, but still decides to give a good kick to the head. Somehow, I think this is not department policy. These situations can also cost the city a pretty penny.

already heard a police union spokesman on radio saying that the suspect had one arm beneath him, and could have been reaching for a gun.

kind of looks like that is BS.

the guy should have been shot, he had a chance to kill people on the sidewalk, he ran into cars on the wrong side of the street, he had his chances. I have absolutely no feelings for people that do these things. The only problem I see is the cop got caught on tape, what the hell, don't they know someone always has a camera. Can you imagine yourself collecting the piece of trash that just led you on this chase, almost killing people. I would have high fived the cop.

The driver blows thru red lights, stop signs, drives on the side walk. If a citizen/ pedestrian had been killed it would have been the cops fault. F*'em, he's lucky he didn't get "2 behind the ear" as far as I'm concerned.

And the cop still had no reason to kick him like that. There was a time when the police could get away with the impromptu beat down. Not in today's digital world. We can't afford to pay millions of dollars when the police end up with a lawsuit and lose.

BTW, I have been out in Pacoima the past few days, but always spur of the moment. I've been meaning to give a call and see if you are around for lunch.

That kick is easily $100K of our tax dollars that the gangbanger will use to buy more guns and drugs. No one is sympathizing with the perp, but the stupid cop should be fired for doing it in full view of any potential jury pool.

That's the problem these days, it's a "lose, lose" situation with this stuff. There was an article in the Times today about the Department being sued because an illegal immigrant gang member was released and shot and killed a promising athlete, very unfortunate but i don't think the cops are even allowed to question a person's legal status when stopped.

Anyway, give me a call we can grab some lunch and talk about "positive stuff', glad to hear you're busy.

That one kick.....Why?

I can empathize with the officer, but you put it in front of a jury full of LA morons, and *ding*ding*ding* jackpot.

The new law in harddrive land:

You run from the police and endanger others, all bets are off. Police can use sharpshooters, automatic weapons, dogs....any means the policeman on the scene deem necessary to bring the chase to a halt. All wrongful death/injury lawsuits are resulting from the individuals failure to stop are illegal. Period.

Heck, they were all high-fivin' each other in the video, might as well join in.

To me the kick was much deserved, but you can't just go givin' people what they deserve all the time. This is AMERIKA, dammit!

Those cops are gonna have a great story to tell tonight when they're at McGinty's, watching "The Ultimate Fighter."

So cops can break the law, and be criminals, and that's ok, but when we do it, it's not ok?

Is that what i'm hearing?

Cops are supposed to uphold the law, not break it because they're pissed off. Johnny lawman is an obvious moron, and deserves to be fired and prosecuted for being so STUPID. If you're gonna beat a perp you do it in the paddy wagon on the way to the station.....shesh.

BTW: Many departments don't even allow high speed pursuits, philly is one of them. Why? Because cops have killed a lot of innocent people themselves when they collided with them (Should those cops be pulled from their wrecked cruisers by angry citizens and kicked and beaten for jeapordizing them?), and because cops get all caught up in the pursuit and lose their cool and do stupid crap like this that ends up making the whole department look bad, and it costs us taxpayers millions.

Which is exactly what this moron cop just did. Good job idiot, good job.

No....they are supposed to be able to control themselves when the chase is over and adrenalin is high. They are trained for that. That is why I couldnt be a cop!

Oh that was stupid. Did he think channel 12's eye in the sky was just cruising around and not filming the car/foot chase?

You bump his head on the roof of the car as you are putting him in, or hit him across the soles of his shoes a few times with a nightstick if you don't want to leave a mark.

Next time I should do it for the cop. That should be all right, it should not cost the city any bucks.

why is it that there weren't too many crazy police chases in the old days and now it happen so often. Is it that they were never caught on film or not reported. WTF happen to when a cop red lights go on, you stop. If I knew the cops would not chase me in that city, I run too.

once a-pon a time [ 1964 ] the local cop could and did shoot to kill
for driving away from them

two 16 year olds in a 58 chevy ragtop with a 348 panicked
and tryed to out run a cop
he shot both of them in the back of their heads
scum bag city officials gave the PIG a medal for that bit of hero act

sorry but your ''law'' SUCKS
I knew both kids
and no they were not criminals or dopers or gang members
just normal high school kids
who did a dumb thing
and were murdered by the man
for nothing
