Was given a S&W Model 27 for Christmas

My wifes mother gave me one of her late husbands guns for Christmas this year. I knew she wanted to do it but have been saying 'no' as I prefer she keeps her 'nice' stuff in case she might need it one day. Widows always seem to have some relative in their life who slowly but surely 'allow' them to give away nice things. I never want to contribute to that. Well she didn't listen to me and this year for Christmas she gave me the S&W Model 27.

Beautiful blued gun that, to me so far, seems to be the quintessential revolver. Thus far i have only owned and shot semi autos (9mm and 45) so this will be a new experience. Bad news is it has a trigger lock on it with a missing key (we have no idea where my wife's father would have put the key) but should have that resolved soon enough.

IIRC i can shoot 38 ammo through the gun and will be finding an excuse soon to hit a shooting range. I've never been given something of such value by anyone other than my wife and it was touching to be thought worthy of such a thing. Of course it will never leave my ownership (or my sons when i am gone).

She probably gave you the gun because she likes you and wanted to give you something nice, but could not afford to, seeing as how she's a widow and all.

Is that possible?

PS: Enjoy your new spoon!

You will probably find it to be one of your best shooting pistols... I have a few trophies from when I shot a model 28 in competition... guns flow like butter when broke in...

A lot of people get all wet over Colt revolvers, but to me i have always liked Smiths and Rugers better.

Go figure.

The Model 27 is a really nice shootin' iron. I looooove me a classic hi polish blued firearm. Exquisite! Especially with a set of fancy wood Hogue grips.

YOM was the first thing i looked for but it's not terribly apparent. Will check on the link Art provided to see if i can decipher.

Snipe I too get that special feeling when looking at really nicely built blued firearms with pretty wood!
