Iowa - rural Iowa - a part of Iowa where they still wave when they drive down the gravel road and trust me there are plenty of them!

The part of Iowa where it takes you 40 minutes to get to a Wal-Mart and an hour and a half to get to anything close to what they call a city.

The part of Iowa that considers Casey's Stop-n-Go Pizza the 'best they ever had'. Where about the only thing teenagers do growing up besides working in the fields is screwing, playing cards and drinking beer.

The part of Iowa that has really pretty girls with fine bodies and will to do anything in bed...until they get married, put on 50lbs and after a few kids look at sex as something teenagers do.

The part of Iowa that you always leave your keys in your truck so you know where they are at (and just in case your friend needs it he knows where they are at).

The part of Iowa that insists that every meal isn't complete unless there is some sort of jello salad dish of a whip cream salad dish or both.

The part of Iowa that has a few bars in every 'town' regardless of the size and for heaven sake don't tip or the bartender will expect everyone to!

The part of Iowa that takes excellent care of their pets yet still "fixs'm" themselves.

The part of Iowa where you own at least two pick-up trucks, one is a work truck the other a truck.

The part of Iowa where every young boy wants to be a farmer and every young girl wants to marry one.

The part of Iowa whose folk take pride in going out and plowing an elderly persons drive and looks forward to having overnight guests stay if they lost power.

The part of Iowa where if you don't go to church on Sunday you will be talked about and if you do go to church you will be talked about only because you can only talk about the weather, crops, tractors just so much before you want to chew your own teeth out!

The part of Iowa that your kids love going to, hate leaving and make crazy fun memories to last a lifetime.

And the part of Iowa that even though your a city boy from up north they still will drink and gamble with you and let you marry one of thiers...

Its not bad, heck I drive up (11hrs) at least 4 times a year for the kids to be with kin and grandparents. It is just so different then where I grew up.

And whatever state it is in if you ask directions from a local they will tell you to go past the Miller's place and turn south then go past the Smith's place and look for the burned down barn and go east. The fact that the Miller & Smith family have been gone for 25 years does not matter.

Spent a lot of time in Shenandoah Iowa and you are describing it to a "T" Mike...

Father grew up in Ft. Dodge/Manson area and its even more-so...

There are many good reasons why I am in Arizona and you hit most of them on the head above!

Good to see you get home ok...

Dude, you're going to have to be a lot more specific for me to know what part of Iowa you were in. My dad's from Lansing (extreme northeast) and my mom's from Marshalltown (perfect center). Relatives scattered from corner to corner. Every part of that state matches your description. Except for the part about Wallmart and being close to something you could call a city. It's a lot farther in some spots.
